First of all, we play a lot of man to man, which means our CBs aren't in much of a position to make picks because their backs are often turned to the QB and the ball. Fans hate zone defenses because offenses find the holes in zones and they think it's "playing not to lose" or "prevent", but there are drawbacks with man to man as well, and this is one of them.
The problem is you compliment those man to man CBs with the worst playmaking safeties in the history of the NFL. I'm not exaggerating ... literally the worst playmaking safeties in the history of the NFL. Last year, through 17 games, 1 turnover for the entire unit combined. I defy you to find another team that got fewer turnovers from their entire safety unit. I tried looking during the offseason to find one and gave up after 30 minutes. Well, the good news is that it won't take me this offseason because it looks like the 2010 Dallas Cowboys safeties are well on their way to matching the 2009 Dallas Cowboys safeties.
And throughout the offseason when anyone of us would have the audicity to point out that this was a really big problem and issue we were always dismissed "Hurrrr .... Alan Ball will be just fine. You can't have Pro Bowlers at every position !!!!" Yeah, you can't have Pro Bowlers at every position, but how about not having the worst playmaking safeties in the entire history of the NFL? Is that too much to ask for?
