This Defense?

This defense doesn't create many turnovers in the fumble /pass interception areas. Anybody have any explanations as to why this is happening? Are the players not trying to strip the ball or are they not in position to pick off passes based on the scheme they are playing in? Discuss.

It's simple. They aren't coached to create turnovers. Wade's Ds never create turnovers.

If that is so then it is uttely insane to play a defense without an emphasis on creating turnovers which are both momentum and game changing plays.

How many ints has brooking dropped this year. He needs to start hitting the juggs machine cause these are balls that are hitting him right in his hands.

To be fair. They've all been at such awkward angles.

I think it's a talent. Some excel at it, others don't.

More importantly, I think it's the ability to step up in crunch time whether it be offense, defense, or coaching where this team is sorely lacking.

Baseball. I live in NY. I've watched Jeter for his entire career. He steps up. The game situation is never bigger than him.

ARod. He's the Dallas Cowboys. Big numbers. Big talent. Rarely steps up in crunch time.

Stepping up in crunch time is a talent just like physical talent.

This team ain't got it.

We have a secondary full of guys who have zero ball skills. Actually half the time they dont even know the balls been thrown... ex. Nate Washingtons TD yesterday

First of all, we play a lot of man to man, which means our CBs aren't in much of a position to make picks because their backs are often turned to the QB and the ball. Fans hate zone defenses because offenses find the holes in zones and they think it's "playing not to lose" or "prevent", but there are drawbacks with man to man as well, and this is one of them.

The problem is you compliment those man to man CBs with the worst playmaking safeties in the history of the NFL. I'm not exaggerating ... literally the worst playmaking safeties in the history of the NFL. Last year, through 17 games, 1 turnover for the entire unit combined. I defy you to find another team that got fewer turnovers from their entire safety unit. I tried looking during the offseason to find one and gave up after 30 minutes. Well, the good news is that it won't take me this offseason because it looks like the 2010 Dallas Cowboys safeties are well on their way to matching the 2009 Dallas Cowboys safeties for historical lack of big plays. Alan Ball has 1 forced fumble and ..... that's it.

And throughout the offseason when anyone of us would have the audicity to point out that this was a really big problem and issue we were always dismissed "Hurrrr .... Alan Ball will be just fine. You can't have Pro Bowlers at every position !!!!" Yeah, you can't have Pro Bowlers at every position, but how about not having the worst playmaking safeties in the entire history of the NFL? Is that too much to ask for?

How about our LBers when was the last time they had an int it is a team game why is it other teams get tipped ball ints against us and we never manage why is our dline rarely tiping balls and creating int

Our linebackers drop a lot of INTs (in fairness, LBs typically aren't known for their soft hands). Our safeties don't drop INTs, because their ball instincts are so horrendous and/or Wade has them playing so conservatively that they're typically 10 yards away from getting a hand on the ball.

The ILB's cant cover and the secondary is a 16-32 unit. Ware, Rat, and Spencer are the only players other teams would give alot for. Juries out on Jenkins, and Newman is on the decline. The rest except for an occasional game are JAGs. I have have high hopes for Brent, maybe Lee, and Lissemore is a project.

They have the opposite of it.

I mean having 400 yards passing and a 100 yard RB in the same game, and the other team as 200 yards less total offense than you, you have to be really creative to find new ways to lose the way they do.

I agree with all of this except Newman is still ballin'. I wonder if anyone still thinks Jenkins is our best CB.

The defense has been the big disappointment this year. I really thought we were primed to step up into at least close to elite status, if not actually to elite status.

Jenkins looked lost in the first quarter just not prepared at all.

Runs - We are too busy just to tackle the runner. What turnover?

Pass - In the past 10 years, besides Jenkins from time to time, when was the last time our secondary looked up for the ball. And when was the last time we had a legit free safety. They are just too busy not to get beat.

Coaching - It's the attitude. And our coaches don't seem to emphasize it.
