You nailed it. Garretts bad gameplans got us down by double digits in nearly half the games. He wouldnt throw his poor gameplans out the window and go to no huddle until he had no choice. Then we would start scoring points.

Out of curiosity, what do you think a game plan is, exactly? And how often are they typically 'thrown out of windows' in games where the team ends up winning, anyway?

maybe they know something we don't like the availability of one Josh Brent. Maybe they agreed to terms with Wiston post june 1st cuts. Maybe they're willing to go with Parnell at RT. (We can sure use a cap saving move there). Or maybe we whiffed at RT and DT which wouldn't be a first.

When the Packers won a SB on the back of Aaron Rodgers, they didn't go out and try to improve their defense.
They didn't try to improve their defense because their defense ranked #1 in the league against the pass, holding opposing QB to a 67.2 rating. That defense also led the league in INT/TD ratio against, with 24 INT to 16 TD allowed. They continued that in the playoffs with 8 INT/5 TD, including 3 INT in the NFC Championship game, in which Rodgers had a 55 rating.

IOW, Green Bay didn't win that Super Bowl on the back of Aaron Rodgers. They won it because they were the best in the league at defending against the pass, and the 3rd best at passing.

I think Dallas drafted a TE and WR in the first 3 rounds because the only dependable targets Romo has are Bryant and Witten, and to a lesser degree, Austin. We dropped from 4th in team passer rating to 9th when we lost Robinson. If we drop any lower, this team won't be competitive.

Why don't you rewatch some games from last season instead of haggling over terms like a football snob? It was painfully obvious to anyone who watched us play that our slow starts and 4th quarter rallies were a trend in 2012, and the 4th quarter rallies were largely thanks to speeding up the tempo and relying on Romo's instincts/playmaking ability.

There's a reason Romo led the league in 4th quarter comebacks: we were usually losing to start the 4th quarter.

Call it whatever makes you feel comfortable. And for the record, I didn't call it a "game plan" nor did I solely blame Garrett for any of it. The players didn't execute, the coach didn't adjust his strategy to fit our horrific OL, and the front office was responsible for the personnel. All deserve blame in a team sport.

LOL. Yes, this is what we're doing in this case: 'haggling over terms.' Otherwise, you don't seem to be saying anything much different from what I said in my subsequent post.

And to be fair, it is debatable whether or not speeding up the tempo and putting the game in Romo's hands earlier on is best for us long-term. You can only go so far without executing a balanced offense that you spend all season practicing. Not to mention all the extra hits Romo would take.

As much criticism as Garrett receives, he'd look like a genius (again) if we shored up the OL.

Our OL was atrocious and we always waited until the 2nd half (when we were down double-digits) to start going no-huddle.

The 1st half was spent stubbornly trying to run Garrett's conventional offense that we didn't have the personnel to execute properly.

Hence the slow starts and fast finishes.

Sounds about right to me.

I think people have forgotten how awful the offense was last season. I remember!

I don't think we had a bad defense, we had bad luck with injuries which exposed our inferior backups that were forced into more playing time than anyone on the staff could have imagined. The truth is we will never know how good (or bad) our defense really was.

Our injuries were mostly to the LBs and OL last year.

I still think think the secondary was a weakness despite the two high priced CBs being healthy all-year. They also didn't look like world beaters going up against Russell Wilson in his second career start.

We were missing good defensive players right up the gut last year. Ratliff, Brent and Coleman on the DL, Lee and Carter and a hobbled Ware among the LBs, and the Safeties.

I don't recall ever being concerned about our CBs, though. Other than the rough first outing Claiborne had v. Philly.

We're getting a lot of talent back on that side of the ball. It's debatable how much that's going to help with a scheme change involved, but it's a lot of starting snaps
