This next match up against the overly talked about Phi Eagles is huge and could be the deciding factor for the Cowboys to make the playoffs.

Thanks to the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys start the season against both relevant division rivals. Everyone is well aware of what the Eagles will represent next Sunday. Some thought the Giants could be a dark horse to make a play for the Division. And the Commanders.. Well, they're still the Commanders from last year. So, that said.. Dallas pulled out the win against the Giants, although they tried there hardest all game to give it to them. In the end, Romo the Great showed the world why he is the best 4th quarter QB in the league at this juncture. (Yet all the media wants to talk about is how Eli messed up..go figure)

Now the Cowboys are going to Philthy. They looked Ok against Atlanta, but the Falcons was able to figure them out and secure a win. What makes this so important in my eyes is the possibility of the Eagle being 0-2. There chances of winning the SB and/or reaching the playoff greatly decreases if the Cowboys can figure out a way to win without the likes of Dez, Gregory, Hardy, and McClain. The Cowboys would be 2-0 and have a 2 game lead on the biggest challenger within our division. The Beagles would be 0-2. Their fans will start to turn on Kelly and hopefully the Chip collapse will begin, which will help the Cowboys the rest of the season due to the tough games the first half of the year. Then by the 6-7game the rest of the Calvary can join in for the stretch run to the SB!

The Cowboys where the best football team on the road last year going 8-0 and I hope that trend continues. If the Cowboys really do have depth on the team as mentioned by most DC outlets, then nows the time to prove it. I'm encouraged by how well Romo & the gang was still able to move the sticks even without Dez, but the pass rush is hurting and worries me. Anywho.. I know this is only game two and there's a lot of football left, but starting the season off by beating both the teams that are thought to challenge us will go along way. What's everybody's opinion?

Julio wrecked them. We won't have a Julio this game, it will be harder to exploit their secondary. Lee and Hitch need to be ready to ball this week, they'll be chasing Sproles all over the field. Keep everything in front, Bradford is scared to throw deep. Attack their poor guards with stunts and pressure. Run away from Cox, start Bernadeau don't feed Collins to Cox. Let's see a few of those 10 minute drives and see how much their D appreciates their high-speed offense handing the ball back every 3 minutes.

I dont believe the Falcons secured a win as so much Bradford gave them the win. Lets be real clear about this, the Falcons were just as happy with a loss as with a win. Do not confuse this. This is a team that had Julio Jones spanking his boy and got away from it. Allowing Ryan to force throws to Roddy while giving the Eagles every bit of confidence they offense wasnt going to pull away. So there was no securing a win with the Falcons who are an organization that doesnt try real hard to win it all.

The Eagles should be determined to make up for their opening day loss against the Falcons. I'm really hoping the Cowboys show more focus than they did at home vs. the Giants. Like Jerry said recently, it'll be a big challenge in this week #2 in Philly, especially with four of our best players having to sit this one out. It's likely to be a huge test.

I appreciate what the OP said above but I think every game will be of this nature in that the present all sets up for the playoffs in January. We always look back and the should've could've would've unless we find ourselves with have home field throughout in the playoffs. I'm not stressing on a loss on this game as I'm almost expecting it given the scenario. That said, a win would do wonders for morale and buying time to get some starters back.

This is gonna be one heck of a game. That Philly offense looks explosive with a lot of weapons (5pt fav). The key will be....turnovers and mistake free football. The team that does that will WIN this game. Just hope Garrett has this team playing up to its capabilities...It's a golden opportunity to go 2 games up on division rival.

If Dallas protects Romo, the Cowboys score 35. If not, they lose. Romo doesn't need Dez like Dez needs Romo.

Romo was basically calling out the Giants defensive plays last week. He's reached that elite understanding where he knows EXACTLY what a defense is doing.

Expect a lot of two-TE this game because you can't really blitz against it without getting torched. It forces defenses to play base.

Without Dez, I don't like how we match up against PHilly at all. Dunbar and the RBs are going to have a much tougher time getting open against Alonso and Kendricks than they did against the jabronis that the Giants threw out there. And, if they can get separation, you can bet that RAC will be limited.

Dallas HAS to run the ball consistently to beat this team.

A game in week 2 will not be the deciding factor on if we make the playoffs.

Yeah I have even heard media say division could be over! By week 2 really??? Idiots

I just want to play well in this game, that's all. Going to Philly is just not intimidating to me. It's not like domes, or Seattle, etc. If we play well and get some TO'S we can win.

Dunbar lined up wide much of the game, and none of their LBs can stay with Beasley or Dunbar.

Philly has a nice front seven, but a highly questionable secondary. Maxwell is supremely overrated, and he looked awful last week.

If Dallas protects Romo, they move the ball. If they can run, too, the Cowboys will put up 40.

And I really liked the way Dallas' corners played last week. The Cowboys should be able to get up in the young Eagle receivers' faces and stop them at the line of scrimmage.

We need to clean up the sloppy play. This will be a tough game. It would be huge the get a win, and without Dez being there, it will be even bigger.
But if we lose, it does not mean we can't win without Dez.
Remember last year because of the NFL stupidity, we had 2 days rest and we lost to the Eagles at home. And lost bad. Everyone thought the season was over.
Well, this is week 2. so a loss is not the end of the season because we don't have Dez.

But for now, my feeling is we can go in there and come out with a win.

Great write up, and this is a real big game !!! Dallas needs not only to win but to make a statement after that poor 1st showing !!! If Dallas can win the first 3 games of the season I think they will be in good shape !!!

I don't know ... we lost to San Francisco the first game of the season last year and look what happened.

Every year, we get these threads about how huge an early-season game is when it ultimately doesn't really matter, but I guess we might as well give up on ever changing that.

Julio was hurting Maxwell, but I saw that Maxwell was getting beat by Roddy White on some plays also. I'm not knocking on White, but I think Williams has a little bit more quickness than Roddy at this stage of his career. Cowboys will be fine as long as they can take care of the ball, play man defense, and have a balanced offensive attack.

I agree. It is an important game in that it is an divisional game and just as important a conference game and at the end of the season that will play a factor in getting a bye or playing wildcard weekend. Last year 12-4 should have been good enough to get a bye but 3 other teams had 12-4 but better conference records.

It's certainly an opportunity to create separation and to potentially put the Eagles' season on the brink of disaster. With that said, with our one-game cushion, I don't think this game will ultimately rank very highly on the list of our "big games" come season's end. There will be about 8 "big games" that trump this.

It'd obviously be a big boost for us to win, but it wouldn't be a surprise for us to lose: road division game; the opponent is desperate; and we're short-handed.
