This is a game where Zeke was missed

Absolutely not. Him being there would have changed nothing.

The way Pollard and Davis were running the ball absolutely no reason not to eat up the clock the second half. Game failure was on KM.

Davis also had a nice 12+ run called back on a ticky tacky holding call

RIGHT!!!

We needed those 4 yards, and I can count on Zeke giving us 2 yards. That still wouldn't have been enough. Everything else is pure speculation.

It was, we certainly missed him early on. I dont know if his physicality would've done it, but the run game started very slowly.

The run game nearly always starts pretty slowly regardless of the back. It's because teams typically start every game focused in on it so as to try and make the opponent one-dimensional. Unenlightened fans often overlook this simple fact.

Agree on needing Zeke yesterday. It’s not always about the flash bang and stats.
The tough short yards in trenches can also be game changers big time. And the battering ram theory on wearing down a D is always in play in many games...maybe not real obvious at times but it’s there. Vattos are sucking air

Naw, there's plenty of games we get established much sooner.

When? Maybe against teams that play the run no better than the Cowboys.. but against most good teams you will face a lot more run heavy defenses and run blitzes and such trying to stop you from running. If you can still run it even with their doing that.. you're probably going to win the game..

Off the top of my head, we ran well pretty much throughout against the Bengals and Rams, I believe the Giants as well. I think the Skins, Lions and Bears it took awhile to get going. We stayed sluggish for most the first half this last game. That is a slower than normal start.

Tell you who ran well from go last week, the GB Packers.

This is a game where you need the hammer. Pollard was getting it done dont get me wrong. However he wasn't tiring out the defense by any stretch of the imagination. Zeke would have had that GB defense scared to tackle in the 4th quarter. He is the closer. And he was sorely missed tonight. I know I am going to get lambasted because of his YPC but that has nothing to do with what I am saying here. Cold weather games like this a RB like Zeke hurts anyone trying to tackle him and come the 4th quarter they want nothing to do with it.

Oh yah…..going from 5 and 6 ypc down to 4ypc would have helped a lot.

Zeke would not stop Dak from throwing 2 int and giving GB 14 points

I suspect our guys would start faster if they were facing our pathetic run defense too.. I was curious about the games you remember us starting out running well so I looked at the first 5 runs in those games..

Bengals: 4,7,7,4,5 - good start there.. > 5 ypc no wonder we won..
Giants: 14,2,6,2,1 - not bad but not consistently positive. The 14 was Pollard on a jet sweep then we went back to more traditional runs and the results were less than stellar.
Rams: 5,4,9,1,5 - Good overall. Better than 4 ypc .. serviceable.

The thing that struck me as I looked at this though was that rarely were there 5 runs all on the first drive. It almost always took until the second drive to get to 5 runs. And all those games were with Rush in and us supposedly more committed to it. Seems like the one keeping the running game from getting untracked early might be Kellen Moore more than anything else. Since these games were with Rush at the helm we can't blame Dak for audibling away from the run early. I think Rush stuck with what was called more often than not.. and it certainly seems like what was called a lot of times was pass.

I think KM was simply more conservative without Dak. When they mention the audibles I have to think the coaches would have conversations about it hurting the team. They couldn't be so weak, they consistently allow audibles without positive results, but that's clear only my suspicion..

The one example everyone uses to prove that theory is week 1 vs Tampa in 2021 when Dak was outplaying Brady. That one doesn't carry much water with me. I've never seen anything else to actually back up the claims, but it would be nice to know.
