To me, this is a must win. I think Romo knows it as well and that is why he will play.

If we lose to the Commanders, at home, then I think the playoffs will be lost as well. I know it is only game three of the season, but it would have a huge impact on the team's mental outlook.

i don't know about losing the playoffs, but I agree that every divisional game is a must win

i feel the complete opposite..i dont think this game is anywhere near a must win situation..

A very important game for O-Line to keep Romo clean as much as possible, I hope they can keep Romo from getting hit.

problem with calling it a must win is what do you do if we lose, write off the last 13 games?

The gap between 2-1 with 1-0 in the NFC east and 2-0 in the NFC is pretty big compared to 1-2 and 0-1 in the NFC East and 1-1 in the NFC. Being 2-1 and beating Washington puts us at the top of the NFC East. I think this year especially its going to be tight at the top of our division. None of the teams look like they're head and shoulders above any other (even the dream team).
This game is important -- not as dire as the OP says -- i think we can lose and clearly still make the playoffs but I think a win here would be a big step towards it.

I will say it is an important game because it is a NFC East game. Outside of that win or lose is not going to determin if this team can make post season or not.

It's a big game but not a must win.

It's not like Washington is going to keep the lead in the division.

Not trying to be a smartypants so please don't misunderstand, but the beautiful thing about football is that almost every game feels like a must win.

Until you have everything locked up that can be locked up all games carry that "must win" vibe, whether it is true or not.

Can we just sticky this thread? Because it seems like every game is a must win every week around these parts...

I don't see how you can look at the schedule and not think it's a big game. If they lose this game, 1-4 is staring them in the face with Detroit and New England next up. At 1-4, the season is pretty much done. 2-3 is only one game behind where I had them after five games so that would be manageable but not 1-4. It's a big game alright. Then you add in the fact that a loss puts you two games down in the division but a win puts you in first place. Yeah, it's a big game.

I actually don't think this is a must-win. I thought last week was, because we couldn't afford to go 0-2 and SF is a bad team. But the Skins look pretty competent right now, and we're banged up. So even if we go 1-2, we could get back to 2-2 by beating the Lions. And that would be okay until we heal up.

If we lose to the Skins at home, we are in trouble. Next 2 games will be even tougher. Lions look like they for real & we all know about NE. Lose this home game (which is very winnable) means we could will be looking at 1-4 record after NE. We'd have to win all our remaining games to get to 10-4 which gives us a shot at the playoffs.

Beating the Skins in our seasoner opener at home would be a big morale booster for the Cowboys; we'd be 2-1 & tied for NFC East lead. Given all our injuries, that would be tremendous. Not conceeding loss to Lions, but at worst we'd be 2-2 heading into the by week but very much alive. Coming out of the by week, we should be very healthy & able to regroup, even if we lose to NE.

Besides I really hate the Skins. Of all the teams in the NFL I hate the Skins the most, closely followed by the Eagles & then the Giants. I just want to shut up all Skins fans everywhere. They never have shown us any respect, nor did the Eagles & Giants, when we were winning our SBs. It's time to make a stand & what better place then on MNF in our home opener. GO COWBOYS.

Maybe this is the week we establish the run and control the clock/pace of the game, and keep the ball away from Romo some.

Every game's a big game in a 16-game season.

You can only lose 6 if you want to have a good chance at the playoffs. Dallas has lost one. The @NE and @PHI games are (in my opinion) likely losses. That leaves a budget of three losses out of the other twelve.

Must-win? Not even close. Big? Absolutely.

If we lose (and I don't think we will), then a good argument can be made that the Lions game is a must-win. We can live with a 2-3 start, but 1-4 would be devastating.
