I have been reading a lot of post and articles and I am worried that the Cowboys will be going in the wrong direction in the draft. We saw that the offense broke down at the end of the season, but I contribute that to bad schemes, play calling, and yes injuries. From what I am reading the schemes will be reworked to match Dak’s skill. A few off season additions were made to bring the new schemes to reality. If the offense is made efficient, that is the best thing that can happen. Now we can go do the right thing and make the Cowboys a SB contender. That is to make the defense the tool that will bring us another trophy. Two axioms that are truisms are; 1) defense wins championships and; 2) you when in the trenches you win!

Again this is not Rocket Science but something that Dallas has lost sight on. The weakest of the defense is up the center. Starting at 1T Tackle and moving to middle LB. The last and sometimes the best solution is a great SS. Anyway, the first thing that needs to be done and the first item that needs to be addressed is the 1T. First draft pick should address this position. This I believe IS THE NUMBER ONE pick that will take us over the top for years to come. There is one and maybe two 1T (nose tackles) that can make this happen and my first choice is Vea. Lee is a great ML but is often injured at that position. The SS is the last player out there but sometimes the best solution is there another Woodson out there?

My 2 cents worth!

Yes it is plainly obvious that we are soft up the middle. You would think professionals making millions a year could figure that out and at least attempt to fix the problem. And not with 6th and 7th rounders and league minimum players. In any team sport you are dead in the water if you are weak in the middle. Yet we refuse to put any value in these positions for some reason passing understanding.

It's a good 2 cents worth. Who knows, maybe the attitude of not taking DT's and safeties high in the draft will change. There is little doubt in my mind that Vea or Payne could be difference makers on our D-line. I think Collins is a better 3 tech than 1 tech and Irving is best as a DE. As far as safety, if I can get pressure up front with the D-line, I can live with average. The problem is, I don't know if we even have average. I

It's going to be an interesting draft. Last year we did exactly what everyone thought and drafted a DE. Two years ago we drafted Zeke when Bosa went off the board and that was fairly predictable. I don't think this draft is as predictable and that's a scary thought in ways. Can FO stop thinking like rocket scientists? 26 days and counting. Time flies when you're having fun

I do think we'll draft defense with our first pick. Up until FA I would have said G or T. We still have a need at T but the case for taking a LB'er first pick is much stronger IMO

The team hasn’t had a great defense since 2007 and not even a good one since about 2009.

You can forget about Vea. He'll be long gone by the time we pick.

You have to remember the emphasis pn the offense came from wanting to be Romo Friendly.

The rebuilding of the OL..drafting Zeke..

all of that.

Prescott was never supposed to start.

He was a distant thought.

The defense has been getting players.

Its just that they can't stop smoking pot or get suspended for other things..Randy Gregory and David Irving and others.

Look at our CB #1 pick from 2 years ago who can't find a position.

Rolando McLain?

Same deal.

So I expect them to draft at least 2 defensive positions early..

DL and Lber.

Wait and see.

A scheme to match Daks skills? I am sure that they are coming up with something new this year.......:laugh::laugh:

If your philosophy id defense then you would view this OP as correct.
But if you look how the drafting has been geared we put our major assets in the offense.
I personally believe that defense wins mostly as long as the offensive line and QB are a strong unit. But thats just me.

This is not 1992 and the NT is a 2 down position. This is a passing league. 1t was never the problem last year. Not with Paea, not with Price, not with Ash, and not with Collins. We go through this every year.

LB actually covers and can play 3 downs so sure.

You know what doesn't actually win championships? Hackneyed cliches. What actually correlates to wins is being able to pass the ball better than your opponent. NTs don't have as much to do with that as DE, 3T, LB, CB, and S.

As for Vea he lacks natural bend and is raw as heck with his hand and footwork. The way he pops out of his stance at the snap makes me doubt he has the flexibility to play at an elite level. WE can find someone in the 4th round like the guy from Texas to do that. This draft is extremely deep at DT.

What you say is correct
Unfortunately this FO has no idea how to build a team
Also, Jerry is going to make 1-2 'splash' (see stupid) decisions during the draft to bring the limelight on himself

If Dallas passed on Shariff Floyd, who they rated as a Top 5 player, what makes you think they'll pick Vea? Marinelli hasn't changed. He doesn't value the 1T DT enough to use a high round pick on him. Not saying I agree with it, but it is what it is.

Case in point
This board is just comical at times

Posters should trust the evaluation of Dr Google over that of real teams and scouts

This player that is supposed to go in the top of round 1 "lacks elite talent" and a similar player can be found "in round 4"

What I see is a coaching staff that lacks the ability to be innovative so instead they have found a person to point the finger at for why Peterson can make Nicky Foles Super Bowl MVP with Blount and Ajayi in the backfield, Tory Smith as a WR ect...and we can’t even make the playoffs....

So they convince Jerry and Stephen that they would be able to win if we just had an entirely new WR Corp..they found a place to point the finger...how many years will these dolts be allowed to point the finger before the Jones smarten up and accept what is clear to everyone who knows this stuff......Fire this coaching staff and hire aggressive, football smart innovative coaches that know how to scheme players into success....not point the finger at everyone else year and year..

That's the same thing that was said about Shariff Floyd. But, when he fell into our laps, we passed on him. Marinelli just doesn't value that position. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Marinelli hasn't changed.

I'm being truthful here...
As long as they can get away with it.
The cancer on this team was deeper than we thought,, we cut it off the roster, but it had spread to the staff as well.
The coaches are the pay check collectors now, and they have been for some time, but they are running out of players to point the finger at, you are right.
