I have read the threads blaming Romo. Looks like some have lost faith in him. I wrote this in a thread, but felt it needed to be said. Not that my words are brilliance. But some have now come to the point that they believe Romo is a walk on waste of time.

I used to think like this.

I hated the idea Dallas had a walk on as if this were the University of Iowa A&M and Chef school, and Cletus Smedlap walked off of the farm and onto the field to play this funny game with a pointy ball.

But there are things about this man that cannot be denied.

Mentally he processes the situation as fast as anyone on the field today, and is up there with guys at the top throughout the history of the game. Romo sees it, understands it, and if he had smart players around him, would get his guys in position to kick it in the marbles if they could think quicker than they do.

This isn't a stupid man. And football wise he is a brilliant field general.

Romo has that sixth sense which causes him to feel the pressure without seeing it. He can move at just the right time to save the play and put himself in a position to make it work. Makes an offensive line look better than they are. During his time in Dallas he has made them look WAY WAY better.

Aaron Rogers may be the best in the league in this category. But if he is 1, then Romo is 1A. The team has been what it is in regard to winning because of this player.

Make no mistake, I haven't always felt like this. But there is a distinct difference from Tony and most of the players on the field for both teams.

I hate the comments about defense in regard to Eli, because I believe he is a very good quarterback. He has a gun and can be as accurate as anyone in the game. He is a gifted quarterback in subtle ways. It's not just a bus driver with a defense.

But I also believe Romo is right there with him. Given a team that can hold the opponent to under 20, Romo, with a competent line, could take any team to a Championship.

I also believe if it came down to it, one minute and forty eight seconds and the ball on the Dallas two, if all things are equal and he has a line that can protect him, the league and all the periphery would be talking about that Championship drive like they do Elway and Montana.

Romo has a burning desire to win and is a winner. Regardless of the picks last night or the over-all record.

There are times he is less accurate. They all have this about them. Even Aikman, who is still the most accurate passer up to thirty-five yards down field that I have ever seen.

And I saw Johnny U and Dan Fouts play live.

What Montana had was a brain and a noodle arm and a great team around him.

You give Tony a defense and an offensive line that can protect him, and one Michael Irvin, or Jerry Rice or something similar, with the skill players he has now on offense, and I would match Romo against Montana.

You're laughing now but I truly believe the guy is that smart football wise.

Does he have a few shortcomings?

Sure. He tries the make plays that sometimes are ill-advised.

But have we EVER seen this guy with a really terrific team around him?

No.

So all the carping today about Romo and the picks tells me people are upset and looking to lay blame. Romo was trying to make things happen in a game that was slipping through their fingers and absolutely no help from the line play, Dez and his mental disability, and Ogletree showing tigers can't change their spots.

Toss in a defense that left their gonads in the lockerroom save for Ware, Lee and Mo and the results are what they are.

Unlike others that will tell you you have no football knowledge because you don't see it like me, I will say you need to consider all the facts and not just a game like the Chicago game last night.

I believe everyone here is a Dallas fan and has an understanding about the game. I also believe we are all fans and give ourselves credit for knowledge when we are just a bunch of voyeurs.

Now I know this will probably get my professional status as a Romo Hater revoked.

But this I believe.

Jerry couldn't find his rear with a map and a tour guide when it comes to football. He "lucked" into Romo because of Sean Payton. If there was a coach he should have overpaid until Parcels left, it should have been Sean, not Opie during Wade's tenure.

And I do not believe in luck.

The team has had some highs over the last half dozen years, and they are attributed to one guy.

Not Parcels, Wade, or Opie.

Not Ware, Rat, or James.

Not TO, Witten, or Austin.

This team has done what they have done because of Romo.

And while I rejoice that he is a Cowboy, I also understand that Jerry Jones, the problem this team has at every turn, sees the team and believes they are close when there is ONE GUY that has made them so.

That guy and his play has fooled Jerry into thinking this team has been better than it is.

Just like a lot of fans here think they are better than they are.

I didn't always think this, but I believe it in my heart now.

That guy, the center of the universe for this Dallas Cowboy's team is:

Tony Romo.

And all the carping, griping, grousing and whining doesn't change this one fact.

That for the Dallas Cowboys, Romo is the Altas that holds up our world.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I agree about everything you said about Romo. I'm not sure about Montana having a noodle arm, but I don't have a strong opinion on that one way or the other.

I'm not sure the defense played all that badly last night. I'm willing to give them a pass for last night. They were put in a no win situation.....

Haven't we been saying this for years now? Give Romo this and that and we'll be great. Romo has much more to work with than most QB's IMO.

The Romo detractors want to pile on Romo after last night, but personally, I think he is one of the best to play the game in the last 10 years.

Great post - Really good. But.... I think Romo is a little further underneath Rodgers than you have outlined. Regardless, I agree.

Completely agree with anything and it's nice to see such intelligent posts on the forum nowadays but this

Was unavoidable. We lost Payton because of how Parcells played it, and I don't think he'd have stayed anyhow - he was ready to be a HC somewhere. It's not like Jerry could just throw money at him and demand he stay, he had to want to stay too. And with Parcells looking firmly entrenched here idk if he'd have wanted to. We didn't hire Garrett until Payton was gone I don't think.

Nice post.

He was bad last night, but make no mistake, he's an outstanding QB. I felt like we had our best team around him in 2007 and even then, in the biggest game of that season, he was let down by his offensive line and receivers. He's a MUCH better QB now than he was in 2007, but we're a significantly worse team. So, there you have it.

Is it going to change fast enough for him to have postseason success here with the Cowboys? I doubt it.

I think I structured the sentences incorrectly. I didn't mean to imply that Garrett was here when Payton was.

But Payton was a real winner and Jerry has publicly said he kicks himself for not seeing that.

As many things as he's missed, his butt must be black and blue if he kicks himself for those mistakes.

Missed it implies he could have done something about it, to me.

Parcells was our coach, and that didn't look to be changing any time soon. I think they were discussing an extension at that time, when Payton left for NO. I think Jerry could have offered him all the money in the world, Payton was headed to NO and bringing Brees with him.

you're probably right about that.

Good post.

I really hope this team can somehow do Romo justice. And not stick their thumbs in their butts

Well, we've got the team that can hold an opponent under 20 (13 points allowed until garbage time at the end).

Now we don't have a line that can give Romo any kind of pocket to work with.

The pass protection wasn't bad last night. 1 sack, 2 QB hits and 11 hurries. That's not hardly bad.

One of the picks was definitely on the OL.

But two of the 5 Romo tossed were squarely on his shoulders. He had a far worse night than the offensive line.

3 of them were 100% on Romo. Just because the pocket collapses and you are under pressure doesn't give you the excuse not to protect the ball. He did the same exact thing in week 3. He doesn't learn from his mistakes! I don't mind a QB who tries to improvise but you don't mess around when you are in the redzone about to score. Just take the sack there and nothing is lost. No need to do anything cute like trying to shuffle the ball. We went from a guaranteed 3 and possible 7 points for our team, to the Bears getting 7 points. That is a punch to the gut to the whole team!

Protect the ball!! Rodgers got sacked 9 times versus Seattle and didn't have one turnover that whole game. He protected the ball every single time and put his team in a position to win the game. No reason Romo can't do the same thing.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. There isn't a QB in the league today that could have won a Super Bowl here under Jerry. Not Manning. Not Brady. Not Rodgers. Nobody.
