This is the most excited I've been about a game for a long time now...

I'm a huge Cowboys fan. I was a youngster back in their 90s glory days, but I still cried when they lost to Carolina in that 1996 Divisional Playoff game (I still remember the announcers praising Kerry Collins).

During the late Chan Gailey era and Dave Campo era and I didn't watch many Cowboys games, honestly...the games that I did watch generally ended up being stinkers where we would lose the likes of the Bengals and I didn't have the patience to watch them for future hopes.

And then the last few years I really got back into the 'Boys again - watching and hoping that Hutchinson would be good, getting excited about their '03 run, and then watching JJ explode at the end of last year.

But I must say that out of all the Cowboys games I have watched, this upcoming Sunday has me more excited than I have been in a long time. This team has played well all year and they have had more heart than any Cowboys team I can ever remember. They just don't quit. This is both good and bad for me as the entire game has me nervous and its a wonderful thing to see a come from behind victory, but also a crushing blow to see the likes of the Washington, Oakland, Seattle, Denver losses.

But this week...we have the advantage (or disadvantage) of pulling for a couple of other teams and hoping the games go into the Cowboys favor, and then the final game of the NFL season is our 'Boys playing at home against a pretty average St. Louis team hopefully all fired up for a win to get them in the playoffs, on top of JJ finally coming around again. What more can you ask for?

At this point, I won't be heartbroken if the Cowboys don't make the playoffs - they have had an amazing year. However, it sure would be great if they could break into the playoffs by an amazing win at Carolina and a win against St. Louis and a few things going our way. In that situation I think we have more momentum than most of the teams out there. And I think what would make us even more dangerous is the idea that the Cowboys were given a "second life" so to say, and have nothing to lose by going all out and just taking their chances in the "tournament".

Sunday can't get here fast enough.

I think I was a little more excited about some of the games earlier in the year, believe it or not. After seeing them play this year, it is clear to me they have so many holes to fill, that even if they do make the playoffs, it'll end early.

I certainly want them to win and get in but, I don't have a helluva lot of confidence in this team at this point.

They've improved over last year though and that's the bottom line.

Good post and welcome to the board.

We are much improved over last season. Fill a few more holes this off season and we could be knocking on the door......With a little luck we could kick the sucker in.

Let's hope you are still excited come kickoff.

Thats about the size of it. If we're already eliminated by then wheres the real excitement?

My sentiments exactly! I didn't have high or low expectations for the Boys this year. I just wanted them to get back to playing Dallas football...America's Team football. This year, the Cowboys have, by far, been the most interesting from 1st quarter to 4th quarter. Probably the most watched in the NFL except for the Colts and their run at perfection.
