I've kept quiet about the O-line conversations. Call me crazy but I'm all for giving this O-line time and seeing how they progress. In my opinion, the O-line isn't something you improve overnight by signing some expensive free agents. You have to give them time to gel and become a unit. With that said, regardless of what happens this season (finishing 8-8 or winning the Super Bowl) I'm happy with leaving the O-line as is going into next season. Smith is the LT of the future, Livings is a solid LG, Costa will be back healthy and I think the coaches see him as the future at C. I think we have our RG on this current roster, and I don't see the need to sign a big time FA or draft someone in the 1st round. We have young guys in Arkin and Leary, we have Kowalski who can always step in, and we have vets in Bernadaeu and Cook. If we make any moves this offseason regarding the O-line I could see it being releasing Free and drafting a RT with our late 1st round pick.
I think our defense will be scary next year with the LBers back and healthy. I really want us to resign Spencer and do whatever we can to keep Jenkins. Releasing Jenskins will be a big mistake. I also want us to hold on to Ratliff and maybe renotgitate his contract. With a playmaker at safety and a stud addition on the D-line I think this defense will be scary. After resigning Spencer and Jenkins I don't know if we'll have any money left, but if we do I hope we could spend it on a stud safety or D-linemen. Then if we don't draft RT I'd like us to get either a safety or playmaker DE in the draft.
Anyway, my point is: give the O-line more time to gel. I think we're okay with what we have, and I've never been big on making bold moves. We have some holes at the safety position and D-line that we need to shore up. Other than that, I say we hold on to our veterans who will be free agents and go into next season with basically the same team we have now. I know people will disagree with this.
