This isn't that big of a deal but ...

... does anyone else think that all the bright pink breast cancer awareness garb is dorky looking? Maybe the league could still do the breast cancer awareness month, but just put up ribbons and do commercial spots instead of putting all that neon pink on the field and on the sidelines.

I definitely want to support finding a cure for breast cancer, but maybe it could be done better. What do you think?

They do not force players to do it. The players who do it are ones who believe in the fight and many have lost women in their life to cancer.

Never understood why this bothers some so much.

So what if it looks dorky? It's optional to the players, they can wear one little ribbon, or every accessory bright pink. It's their call.

The beauty of it is that it spills into the youth leagues, and high school football. The NFL made it "cool" for my 11yr old son to wear high pink socks to show support and raise awareness for a disease that his aunt, and many other women are battling.

My point is that I can see where some may think that the awareness can't really be raised any more than it already is after the last few seasons, but what about support for these women? If it does nothing else, it shows them that people care, and support them in their fight. Sorry if it distracts you from watching a good football game, but somethings ARE in fact more important than football.

I'm cool with it but I think having pink all over the field for 1 month is a little overboard.

Maybe they should just do it for a couple of weeks.

i love it. the fanbase is majority male, and i think its a great gesture to our beloved females who are dealing with this horrible condition. its a constant reminder, and when i'm watching a game and my wife asks me what the pink is about, its nice to tell her that breast cancer awareness is important to the players and fans.

#1 Hate the offseason
#2 It's actually a huge scam if you look into it. It's people doing something for a good cause, but the actual money isn't really funding much research, and especially not for the causes of cancer. It's a huge marketing campaign that gets certain organizations extremely wealthy.

This might be my biggest problem with the whole thing. I think its like less than 15% of all donations actually go to cancer research.

Exactly.

^^^ I think this would be better. I also don't recall anyone doing any ads for the research. Maybe a player comes on for a commercial and says, "Here's why I support breast cancer research...."

And if the other poster is right that only 15% of the money goes to actual research, that sucks. The percentage should be way higher than that.

I think the whole point is to bring awareness. That's why it's pink as to call attention to it. If it blended in you wouldn't notice. The campaign is obviously effective. I don't care if they draped themselves in pink velvet. Cancer is a horrible thing that has affected us all in some way. Let's all do our part to kick it's !

that chart says 20.9% to research
13% to screening which is just as important
5.6% to treatment, again very important
i would only have two questions about their fund. what is included in the public education which is a huge part of their funding and why is fund raising and admin so high, should be around 15% and is around 21%

Read the whole article. Only half of the 20% goes to actually researching a "cure".

Also look at how the Koman cult endorses oil fracking, which has proven to increase breast cancer occurrences in several Texas towns, while the overall occurrences have declined in places where fracking does not go on.
