We have some serious problems going on with our defense. I don't care what our ranking is, how teams are scoring, why teams are scoring, or how wonderful our players are...the bottom line is our defense is playing merely average at best.

Against weak teams like Carolina, teams with only 1 real threat (Smith) and almost zero running game this year, we can stop that one playmaker and then shut the offense down. But teams with speed and multiple playmakers are giving us fits. TEams with any balance between the run and pass are giving us fits. Players, Scheme, Coaching, The Moon? I don't know, but we have a problem, and to say we don't is to stick your head in the sand.

Now...that said, I have never believed in the old mantra "defense wins championships." I'd rather have an offense that can score on anyone and an average defense than a great defense and an average offense.

Weak offenses don't score much in the big games or playoffs...weak offenses give other teams more points on turnovers and field position.

I'm thrilled with tonight's win...I expected Vick to have a big game against us because we don't have the type of defense that can handle a talent like him and we have proven we aren't as solid as we'd like to believe in the secondary. But we won against a talented team playing hard on their own field, and we won because our young QB had a good game after struggling for two weeks, and we won because we put up a lot of points.

I'm happy with that, and while I hope someone figures out how to put our defense in a better position to make plays when the playoffs get here, I accepted a long time ago what many refuse to entertain...we are not a top defense...we're an average defense with a few very good players on it. I can live with that if the offense stays healthy and keeps chugging along.

Go Cowboys.

Henry scares me to death out there. I can't take much more of his play that is for sure. I think we are better with Watkins in there.

As poorly as they played in the first half I thought they got better through the game.

Agree, the Defense is not SB worthy though. I don't think we are going at best to NFC championship game. My guess is, get out one Playoff win, if we don't get a bye, then lose the second one on the road type of team.

By sheer luck or something, we do get to SB, my guess is this team will get killed by SD, especially LT or maybe Lorenzo neal maybe :D

And sometimes Henry reminds me of Kevin Smith post his Achilies injury.

The gameplan going into this game was to clearly force Vick to pass, and keep him in the pocket.

It just so happened that he had a great game and his receivers started catching the ball (for the first time in 4 weeks).

Give the Falcons some credit. Their backs were against the wall, and they brought their A game.

Our defense did tighten up in the 2nd half, and played their best half of football in recent weeks.

I'm more concerned about who isn't picking up the fullback on our defense. I think Watkins/Parrish will be splitting time at safety over the next couple of weeks.

This is two weeks in a row we watched FBs kill us. You would think after last week and knowing that Norwood would be out, that Zim would have had something or someone on the FB. But noooooo.

Honestly, I think we have such good players on Defense that it saves Zim's butt.

Otherwise, we would be dead in the water defensivly because it doesn't seem like Zim does much with the talent he has.

I think our problems are three-fold:

1. Anthony Henry.

2. The occasional missed coverage/tackle by a LB.

3. Inconsistent pressure.

Number two is always going to be a problem. Three is a problem occasionally but very few teams get consistent pressure. One, however, has to be fixed. He's absolutely our biggest liability on the team. Sure, Newman forces a lot of looks his way, but why would teams even look Newman's way when Henry is constantly beat?

You would think we could solve this. How many times is it gonna take to learn how to defend this? We see Westbrook next week. Anyone got any ideas what play the Eagles might run a few times?

I wouldn't be suprised if Andy Reid at first doesn't run the play in speculation that we will be looking for it, and bomb it deep instead. Then when we start worrying about the deep pass so then he starts the dump off to Westbrook.... and then we crumble.... hopefully not.
