This last game made me lose respect for Dan Campbell

Anyone else see #70 yelling on the sideline that he "didn't say a word"? So, why did you approach the official? ___________hello (lol).

He must be doing something right. He's done something that a Detroit coach hasn't done in 30 years.
Exactly. So mistakes were made. That guy has done the impossible. Here’s a stat…last time they won the division was 1993. The had 11 coaches try and fail before Campbell took over in 2021. 11!

I see no problem with him beyond the multiple 2-point try attempts.

He tried to confuse the defense and ended up confusing the referee and his team paid for it. If it had worked, everyone would be raving about how smart he was to do it.

As for him getting mad at the referees, if the referees ruled a player ineligible that McCarthy knows reported himself as eligible to the referee, I would hope McCarthy would react just as strongly in that situation.

The fact that Campbell has turned the Lions into a division winner with 11-12 wins two seasons after only winning 3 games and a history of bad seasons by the Lions is impressive.

Apparently, Campbell didn't do anything illegal. He made some bizarre decisions during the game, but our coach is out to lunch half the time. Who cares, really?

Amazing so many of you can't understand winning had value to Detroit while losing wasn't a real detriment.

Why not take chances?

An argument can validly be made that his decisions were worse than MM's. He called multiple 2 pt attempts out of sure stubbornness and adrenalin, which a HC has to not let get the best of him. BB would never do that, and he quite possibly cost his team a 2 spot in the playoffs. Further, if they go over and over and over and over these plays with their players, a simple "When you call yourself eligible with the Ref do not until you get acknowledged 100% that they are aware." DC had the chance to question why Decker wasn't declared eligible, which he didn't. I know MM gets raked over the calls for stupid downfield throw call that Dak threw 25 yards out of bounds, but the theory behind it made sense it's the execution that was abysmal...if there was no open Cooks for the TD then you tell Dak to check it down or run for a few words. Which happened, is that play on Dak or MM? Who knows..

He turned around a franchise that was dead for 30 years. With a discarded QB and cast offs.

Give me a break. I understand he was too emotional on Saturday, but give me him over the reactive doofus (MM) ANYDAY.

One of the first non-Cowboy games I watched was the Chiefs versus Lions one. The Lions beat them by playing smart football. However, in the game against us, Campbell made numerous boneheaded decisions, and one extremely crooked one. The, after he basically hozed his team with bad decisions, he through a fit, blaming his loss on the refs. He also only saw the situation with tunnel vision. His dirty rotten trick to try to confuse the Cowboys on who was eligible to receive blew up in his face, and it serves him right. That was a deliberate attempt to cheat. He's got total tunnel vision on that one play, but he has amnesia about the bogus tripping penalty that gave him the chance to get another TD. He's acting like a spoiled-rotten teenager.
...
If he had any sportsmanship, he would take responsibility for the things he did that made it harder for his team to win. A perfect example of that was when he elected to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking a chip-shot field goal. Those 3 points he left on the field came back to haunt him, as he lost by just one point. Instead of saying, "I made that call, and it hurt my team; I take full responsibility for that," he whined and moaned about the refs, ya know, those same refs that kept him in the game with a bogus tripping penalty. He developed tunnel vision about the refs failing to understand which players he intended to make temporary eligible receivers, and this after he deliberately obfuscated who would be eligible in an attempt to get the Cowboys not to cover him. Then, when he was rightfully penalized for an illegal touch or an illegal formation (take your pick), he threw fits, and insisted on still risking a 2-point conversion. Micah Parson's mistake of jumping offsides gave Campbell a New Years' present, but his team still couldn't punch it in, and this when he could have easily forced overtime with a chipshot PAT. He was the biggest reason why his team didn't win, but he's being a whiny little punk obsessing over the refs failing to understand and help him implement an unsportsmanlike dirty trick. I don't care if that move is technically legal. It's a rotten trick designed to make your opponent think the wrong player is the eligible one so that his QB has an easy toss to an uncovered guy for the 2PAT. That's not in the spirit of the rules. The rules are designed to make it clear that someone who doesn't normally act as a receiver is a legitimate target now.

After having tremendous respect for him, I now think he's a blubbering and whiny like a high school incel saying, "Waaaahhhhh, why won't she be my girlfriend?"
pretty bad take.

whether you like analytics or not, those decisions would have proved moot absent one flag.

he is going onto a game vs a team averaging 40pts a game at home. they threw 2 pics and still were in position to win holding Dallas to 1/2 the season avg at home.

I'd rather have a coach super pissed than never bothering to look up at a bogus tripping call and then chuck it on second down to stop the clock

Had that been Mike going for 2 three times in a row, instead of OT this place would be wanting to lynch him.

I agree with the OP.

Lost in all this, he has turned Detroit around. Who would have thought that? Dallas got out of there with a W by a fingernail. Be thankful he had a brain fart or you would be the one here complaining.

im sorry, did he kill someone? bet on his team? try to injure other teams players?

are we really going to ride on a high horse over this?

I did say that in HS lol a few times!:muttley:
but I thought the same thing, cambell lost the game for his team. I predicted that fg would come back to haunt him and it did.
what he did at the end on 2 pt play was insanely stupid.
Lets say the refs had done what he wanted, it wouldnt fool dallas, as they would know decker 68 was eligible and 70 wasnt !!!!!!!!!!!
Since they tell dallas who is elligible and may it is announced too, it is stupid to think it will fool dallas. Also they didnt line up right so that is another boo boo.
Alls night he went for it on 4th down and 3 times on 2 pt play was so stupid. Everyone with a brain was sitting there saying kick the pt !!

He has a bad temper , needs to go to anger mgmt and maybe back to school and get smarter lol

he did do that, but I think he wont go much further due to his faults like temper and overall intelligence.
That 1 game he cost his team and a shot at 1st seed, which they needed the most.
Will be watching him in playoffs.
