This looks like another needs draft.

It was a terrible trade, Green has been a major bust since he was drafted. CJ Johnson was one of their best secondary players who played with an edge. This tells me Becton is a goner.
They way overplayed for Gardener-Johnson last offseason and couldn’t wait to get rid of him. They got a former first rounder who will be there starting right guard plus a 5th round pick for a player they don’t want. The Cowboys should be all over Becton.

All players mentioned are depth players and very replaceable. Let's see how they address their open starting positions. You did want Osa back and not a downgrade there, 20 million a season affects other role players.
Lewis was a starter and the role
players matter. Regardless of whether we agree on that or not so far the roster is worse than it was last year.

Lewis was a starter and they have yet to address the position. He is the only one they really lost thus far in my opinion. Still have a ton of players out there and a ton of cap space. Time will tell if they have truly changed their ways, but it is too early to fully make judgment.

Green has been a total bust, might not even make their roster. They hated Johnson so much, why acquire him twice?

If the Jones boys want to trade down, this would be the year to do it.

I just can't believe that Jerry is spending the last years of his life going full Mike Brown and cutting his team's costs as much as possible rather than going all in. That's not what pro football teams are for. They aren't a real business, they're a Ferrari for billionaires to drive on the weekends.

Ask the Eagles. They won the championship. They can do whatever they want. Gardener-Johnson has had issues everywhere he has been. Saints, Eagles Detroit, Eagles again.

What I am saying is, Green is a bad player that's why they also gave the Eagles a 5th rd pick to take him.

they have the best line in the league, and the best line coach in the league. taking a flyer on a former 1st round pick and hoping they can maximize the potential is just what they did (and did successfully) with becton.

There is no one available in FA that would be equal to or an upgrade over Lewis IMO.

We were going to draft a RB regardless so going Rico to Walker makes the RB room worse.

Golston is better than Thomas.

I feel like this is pretty black and white barring they make a bunch of trades but I’d be absolutely shocked if that happens.

Player like Hilton is on par with Lewis. They also can always move Bland to nickel and find another outside corner which gives them more flexibility. There are a few corners out there that could stablize the position, also could be a draft option as they did talk to 9 corners at the combine.

I liked Golston, but he is just a low level rotational DE that is solid against the run. He was a healthy scratch until last season when he was forced to start. Still believe they are going to sign another DE or use a high pick and have Kneeland as the backup for next season. I don't view Thomas as a backup DE, but rather a backup 3T behind Osa. He is certainly better then those bottom feeders that we have had in the past at the position.

You know I wasn't a big fan of Dowdle, don't think Walker prevents the team from still drafting multiple backs in the draft. When healthy, which is the big issue, he was a good power back. He is just veteran insurance in my opinion like the TB runner we signed last season.

Becton's issue was never talent, was always about health.

Payton Turner is your Golston replacement.

Yea I disagree with just about everything here. Just don’t see eye to eye on this.

Talk me off the ledge guys. I am an idiot I know. I thought maybe we would grab a running back, wide receiver, linebacker, guard, defensive tackle, and cornerback in free agency so we wouldn’t have reach for need in the draft. I know it’s early and there is plenty of trash to pick through but the free agency class stinks. The Cowboys cleared all this cap space and signed guys they could have gotten a month from now.

With the first 3 picks the Cowboys will probably draft a cornerback, linebacker, and running back in some order. So depending on how the draft plays out they are going to have to reach or be dependent on the teams in front of the Cowboys to make a mistake. The Cowboys will probably miss out on a stud wide receiver, defensive end or defensive tackle. This is a frightening scenario. I hope I am wrong. Please someone give me hope.
It looks like a chance to hit on big picks at 12 and 44.

Gholston is better than Turner. Rico is better than Williams. Tank is better than Thomas. Martin is better than Jones. The Cowboys have downgraded their roster. Once again they will dependent on the draft and players who are currently injured.
The team starter talents are set at present, Now they work on upgrades in depth and for starts. As it always is,

That's why best player available works, still.

Dallas will still sign a cornerback.

The #Cowboys are finalizing a three-year, $18 million deal with WR/RS KaVontae Turpin, making him the NFL’s highest-paid special teamer, sources tell me and
@SlaterNFL
. Darren Jones (MaVen Sports) and Deryk Gilmore (Day 1 Sports and Entertainment) did the deal.

Less than 24 hours into FA and you got it all figured out?
24 hours into FA is pretty much the end of the second wave, and the talent gets very thin, very fast. The big names get signed during the legal tampering period, and the other quality guys don't last long after that.

Frankly, if we're not counting on draftees to fill positions of need, we'll need to sign vet FAs to fill those spots by end of business tomorrow.
