Broncos | Plummer wants to start
Wed, 28 Feb 2007 23:54:46 -0800

Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer wants to play in 2007, and has no intention, according to his agent, of retiring. Also, the last time Legwold spoke with him, he said he intended to not just play in 2007, but to be a starter somewhere.

(The source is KFFL.)

Not a good fit in Dallas.

Every QB wants to start. That doesn't mean Plummer will. But to your point, in Dallas he'll be more controversial since Romo has not started a full year yet. So if Dallas signs Plummer, he may come in with false hopes/expectations of becoming the starter and then outing all year like Bledsoe when he finds out he's just the backup. So in the end, I'd pass.

The three QBs I want to back-up Romo in Dallas, in this order, are: (1) Brad Johnson, for his experience as a starter, for his ability to run the timing offense that Garrett knows, and for the mentrong he can give Romo since he's been a legitimate starter for many years, (2) Anthony Wright, for his experience coming off the bench and playing well in that backup-QB role, and (3) Joey Harrington, for his youth and history with Garrett, and for his potential of getting better and living up to his draft-level - assuming that some time "on the pine" is what he needs to turn his fortunes around.

When has Brad Johnson run a timing based offense?

It's about time...I knew he wouldn't be a good fit because he has the same mentality that Bledsoe does. Besides, he would cost to much.

If Parcells were still here, I'd say he was a possibility and that it might even be open competition. Parcells you might remember, loved the guy.

I never thought he was a candidate after Parcells hung up his whistle.

Johnson played for Norv Turner in Washington and did very well, but that was years ago

Johnson's arm is so weak now that he cant make any of the throws needed

honestly he should retire...he is washed up

Thanks, I totally forgot about his time in DC with Norv.

I have always liked Brad Johnson as a QB. Nothing spectacular, but a steady QB you can count on to be prepared. He does seem to have the mentality to make an ideal QB. I just don't like the fact that he is 39 years old. He would not be one of my top options for a back up for Dallas, but in the end if that is all Dallas can find, oh well. He won't be horrible. Like most teams, the Cowboys have to hope their starter does not get hurt.
