- New offensive scheme
- Dak now has 3 years of.experience in the league
- Cooper is an upgrade compared to Dez (besides the redzone)
- Zeke is just as good
- Michael Gallup is a huge upgrade compared T. William's
- Cobb has much more versatility than Beasley
- Pollard has to be more of a threat than McFadden was.
This offense has the chance to be something special.
I don't think most people realize how restrictive the personnel was in 2016 with regards to what plays they could run.
Dez: Unpredictable routes.
TWill: Only reliable on intermediate distance passes. He struggled to react to short, quick passes and he was definitely not a deep ball receiver.
Witten: Great in that short & short-intermediate area but limited range and not a YAC threat.
Beasley: Some redundancy with Witten in the short/intermediate area.
It was more obvious in 2017.
They started sending Dez deep more often because it's much easier to predict what he would do on a go route. It also kept him from interfering with other receivers routes where he would often run into their area bringing extra defenders with him instead of running the routes as designed.
On 3rd and long, defenses would just play the sticks and basically leave Beasley and Witten uncovered in the short area because the defenses were confident they could rally to tackle them short of the 1st down.
In 2017 once defenses realized they could easily single-cover Dez, they would just double Beasley on third and short.
