This offense should work

If you're keeping score, that makes 5 times in the last 9 games that Dallas has failed to score 10 points. A new definition of ugly in Cowboys history.

A lot of folks are blaming Garrett and Linehan. Those like me quickly blame Dak. Others think it's the receivers, Witten's age, the lack of protection, predictability, etc. The answer is all of the above, sort of.

The real culprit here is evaluation. That, and diagnosing what the offense needs.

This offense should work. I like the idea of being one of the lone power running teams in the NFL. That team that can take advantage of small linebackers and defenses built to stop the high-powered offenses of today.

You simply can't run this offense without a top-tier quarterback. The organization - Jerry, Stephen, Garrett, Linehan, and maybe McClay - somehow refuse to understand this. They think if they build a passing offense with what Dak wants, a la Mississippi State, and use it to complement this superstar running game, it'll all fall in place. Just like 2016 all over again.

But the NFL adjusted. Dak is what he is. A 4th-round pick with very limited arm talent. That'll never change, so for the rest of his time here, he'll see 8-man fronts selling out against that run game, daring him to beat them. He can't, and they know it.

Shame on the powers that be to not recognize this. If other teams can diagnose this, why can't Dallas? How many single-digit scores and sub-200-yard passing games of evidence do they need to see? It's painfully obvious, even to a couch coach like me. (Apologies to CouchCoach.)

Dak's eyes were silver dollars yesterday. As Teddy KGB would say, "check, check, check, check!" If it wasn't for some late game connections with Cole Beasley.....that 170 yards would have been under 100.

People say it's just one game, but it isn't. It's 9 games now. This season looks to be headed to 4 or 5 wins. Did you see Jacksonville's defense yesterday? They might hold Dallas to 1 yard.

Garrett's days have to be numbered now. So are Linehan's, and so are Dak's. The disgust on Jerry and Stephen's faces yesterday was telling, although they should be looking at themselves. They went all-in on this Dak experiment, too. Jerry didn't talk after the game yesterday, which I thought was scientifically impossible.

I'll ask you to turn your eyes northward. There's a young man named Lincoln Riley who is getting a LOT of NFL attention these days. Jerry will need to backup the Brinks truck, but I know he notices. Riley runs a power run game with a dynamic passing offense. Sound like something Zeke could do.

But even that will require the right QB.

This franchise is, once again, in football purgatory.
It's really too bad for Garrett and Linehan. They deserve better. For all Garretts shortcomings, like clock management early in his career, he still deserves better.

Offensive coordinator 2007 his offense was 3rd in yards and 2nd in points. Through 2014 his offense never ranked lower than 16th. When he had a QB.
Linehan had #1 offense in Minnesota and a top 5 in Detroit. You don't suck for 13 years and keep getting hired.

I will say, other than Zeke's rookie year where their run game was #1 in the NFL, Linehan has struggled to keep up with Garrett's record as OC. I would be all for a change at OC, but do you really want to extend Dak right now? Even with a fresh face at coordinator. I doubt anybody would jump on a ship that's taking on water.

Now the Cowboys are 25th in yards and 26th in points. Worse than when Cassell and Weeden ran the offense in 2015. Think about that.

Aren't those the superior blocking TEs we so covet?

No no no they need fast young guys out there! This offense has been hamstrung by the old soon to be hall of famer. Dude was a bum. Now they’re younger and that means better!

Rico is the future of the TE position! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

You're the interloper here.

I wrote the OP, buddy boy. Ignore it if you emotionally can't handle it.
he's needs his backup buddies to backup his bs he spews in every thread... oh that's right that dump is down because of posters like him...maybe ksk can put his name tag back on his shirt and pretend he's somebody important again and act like his opinions matter.. lmao.

The one glimmer of hope was the look on Jerry's and Stephen's face at the end. Jerry didn't talk to the media, which I didn't he was physically capable of doing.

Are they going to dish out $150 million for that? They know they ***** this up, and now they're cornered.

And then what? I just keeping thinking about that bourbon fueled confession that he only hired Bill for the stadium. Thanks for the encouragement, but AT&T is going to last a long, long time.

That was one play where they faked Zeke to the right and he couldn't recover to the left in time to pick up the blitz. There was a lot of pressure on Dak, but that play wasn't typical.

That particular play was not, but there was a lot of pressure.

why shouldn't he have gotten pressure. the defense knew he wasn't capable of throwing the ball. why wouldn't they pressure him all day long. if you can't back the defense up with throws you're going to get pressured all day. No offense in the NFL is going to be able to protect the qb when he's scared or can't throw the ball. sheesh.

Nobody will say there's a problem at QB, because this staff has scapegoated EVERYBODY to try to make Dak better.

Saying that Dak's struggling would admit being wrong on Dez and wrong in the entire approach to this offseason.

They'd also be admitting they were wrong to have benched then jettisoned Romo. And that would be the final nail in all of their coffins.

:hammer:

The offense won't work if Dak can't even TRY to throw the ball down the field...one attempt of more than 18 yards, and it was the horrible pass to Jarwin.

2nd and 17 and the Panthers had 8 men in the box. The Cowboys ran the ball. That's on the QB...though going in a 2 TE set is dumb there.

The question is why aren't Dak, White or Rush throwing the ball down the field.

Dak was throwing it down the field when he first took over for Romo, is it being coached out of the QBs in favor of ball security or what?

Reason and balance in thought. I love these kind of posts. I will only point out that Garrett and Linehan were first line of defense against going into the season with a shell shocked QB.

how are the defense's playing dak? stacking the box making him beat them with throws and pressuring him. More defensive players at the line slows the rb down and his yardage decrease, and the defense make you beat them with your arm. which he can't.. He's a leader with no arm. Heck put White or Rush in who's not scared to throw the ball. Int or no points from being scared, what's the difference?

Welcome back to the wilderness of the Pre-Tony Romo years. At least we'll always have 2016.

So embarrassing.

Spread them out at least.

Instead we are 2 TE's and they laugh and match us up with 8 in the box.

Yeah. This offense should work... In 1975.

The QB should have took a shot, it was man all over the place. But he is chicken little back there. A simple audible and go deep but with our Franchise QB, there is not a chance of that. That is on the QB, he is weak, and a scam. He should be benched today.

Nice try buddy. Accuse someone of Hate. Isnt that getting old?

Why is truth called hate, would you rather he lied

You guys sing the same song in every thread. Think the 'Dak Suck' merger thread is a coincidence?
