I think you're right.

But Jerry might resist the wind a bit more if he can attain more tangible success soon. A big part of why he reinvents himself is because current Jerry ain't gettin it done.

That's true.

He's willing to try almost anything new ... as long as he remains the GM.

This post is probably more about seeing the glass half-full than it is a deep conviction to Wade as HC...

But there is part of me that is just fine with Jerry staying with Wade another year. Why? Because Jerry is taking the same stance with Wade that he took with TO.

That is, he is standing against the theory that 1 man (be it WR or HC) is the key to organizational success. Jerry is daring to believe that a team is measured by the sum of its parts not the one outstanding part. More than that, it says he believes in the value that Wade brings as DC in the same manner that he believes in teh long term value of Garrett as OC and then HC. It kind of resembles the Pittsburgh approach that is very calculating in terms of who it will consider irreplaceable, and an avoidance of knee-jerk reactions during difficult times.

Jerry is a long ways from replicating the Steeler model, but letting TO go and keeping Wade & Garrett can be viewed as a glance in that direction.

Exactly. And that is why, even though I like Wade more than most, I was proud of Jerry after the year ended. He said he was going to stay the course, and he did. Maybe keeping Wade will turn out to be a mistake, but at least he refused to make a knee-jerk reaction even though I'm sure a part of him really wanted to.

BTW, on a point you made, Jerry said after the season that Joe Gibbs of all people convinced him a long time ago that he would be better off with a head coach who offered a real expertise on one side of the ball as opposed to a head coach who was just an overseer. Of course, Gibbs was that kind of HC himself. Thought that was kind of interesting.
