Enabling

Negative use
In a negative sense, "enabling" can describe dysfunctional behavior approaches that are intended to help resolve a specific problem but in fact may perpetuate or exacerbate the problem.[1][2] A common theme of enabling in this latter sense is that third parties take responsibility or blame, or make accommodations for a person's harmful conduct (often with the best of intentions, or from fear or insecurity which inhibits action). The practical effect is that the person himself or herself does not have to do so, and is shielded from awareness of the harm it may do, and the need or pressure to change. Enabling in this sense is a major environmental cause of addiction.[3]

And this just doesn't apply to the Randy Gregory situation. It also applies to Greg Hardy and his sideline rants. Dez Bryant and his sideline rants. This team has time and time again allowed players to run amuck with no consequences. There is no accountability. Everyone knows Jason Garrett is Jerry Jones' puppet....and all the clapping and cheering isn't gonna change how the players respond.

Nope. It's time the team brings in a head coach that instills fear. Fear for their jobs. Fear if they don't live up to expectations there will be consquences.

Until then....this organization is gonna continue to suffer black eyes like yesterday.

Jerry Jones needs to realize this is his doing..... and accept responsibilty.

In accepting responsibilty there needs to be action taken....and it starts @ the top.

As long as we have a head coach that is just a head coach by name....then these type of setbacks are gonna continue.:(

Jerry Jones - Owner, GM, Therapist.
I couldn't agree with you more. How many times has this bit us in the ***? If the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, Jerry truly is CRAZY.

These players are grown men. When it comes to your life the buck stops at your feet.

You point out Jerry's mistakes but what about what he's done right? The guys manning the offensive line are good to great players and have no issues off the field. Was Jerry not involved in picking them? What about Sean Lee?

I don't see how Jerry Jones is the cause of an individual's character flaws.

Most on here were happy with the Gregory pick and thought it was a steal.

I'm no fan of Jerry Jones but you have to be fair.

I was never a fan of Jason Garrett as the head coach but I give him a lot of credit for at least TRYING to impose a code of conduct and wants to bring in the right kind of player to the franchise but he's fighting an uphill battle when his owner/GM Jerry Jones is undermining him at every turn by bringing in guys that don't fit the atmosphere Garrett is trying to create....

The Hardy situation was a given, anyone thinking Hardy was going to stay out of the news was merely falling for wishful thinking. Kraken was always going to do what he wanted regardless. Short of the team releasing him during the season, there's nothing they could have done.

Dez rants are positive, not sure where you're going with this one.. Ask the locker room.

With Gregory, do we know if it was marijuana? With him playing hurt last year, could it be a different substance? I'm not excusing it, but it may not be what we think it is.

True....

Would have been ticked if we had passed on him in the draft. But there is a difference. The guy has now flunked 3 more drug tests. That should tell you he isn't gonna change. We swung for the fences...and failed. Time to move on. Even after the grateful promises after the draft...he still managed to fail multiple tests in less than a calender year...letting down multiple people in many phases.

But the bigger travesty would be to let this go on. To continue to enable him...as if it's ok. What kind message does that send to the rest of the team?

If Jason Garrett is ever gonna make a stand and represent leadership....No way does this go unpunished. You cut bait.

For a coach on the hot seat... It may not be the popular move....but I guarantee it would get the attention of the players...and give the front office and Garrett credibility it sorely lacks.

There goes your "Ive seen teams turn around the defense in one year" theory. That was you correct?

I can at least agree on that one. He tried and had the right idea. But like many us told the Garrett apologists..................Jones fills the roster and Garrett simply doesnt do that kind of thing here. He is nothing more than a news conference puppet. Its all Jerry. Jerry needs to go.

If Garrett had any stones, he would have quit by now. But I'm sure he understands that he is lucky to even have a job. With his record and the monument of mistakes he has made his reputation is in the toilet. He should try out coaching high school or maybe division 2 college and get some experience.

This when fans start to overthink things.

Denver just won a SB............ with guys like Talib who has a history of problems far worse than Gregory smoking pot. In signing him, after he started a fistfight at a rookie symposium, after being arrested for assault and battery charges, etc. On the field, he plays stupidly and picks up dumb penalties and was suspended for poking a player in the eye, etc.

This is the reality of the NFL. There are bad and dumb dudes on every single team in this league, not just Dallas.

Frankly, if you try to build a team of top notch character guys who have even whiff trouble, guess what? Your team is going to suck.
