Last night I posted a thread with evaluation of last years game with Detriot and Kyle Kosier. There is long thread with videos (Thanks theebs) and analysis.
This morning I watched the game again to evaluate Larry Allen just to see the differences.
Granted this is just one game, but it was pretty obvious.
After watching it I now believe Larry Allens days really could be numbered.
If I where grading the 2 players, and knew nothing about either of them, and just watched this game, I would take Kosier.
The obvious difference is Kosier was by far more consistent.
Larry Allen gave up several tackles on running plays, no sacks, but did give up a couple of hits on Bledsoe.
Several times Larry Allen wiffed his man, fell to the ground, and stumbled over his and other peoples feet.
We did not try to pull him one time. When he went to the second level he was inconsistent. If he got to his man in position he had a dominant impact which was good, but to often he wiffed or could not get there in time, and a couple of times gave up tackles.
Larry obviously was more powerfull, and it showed at times, but to often he just could not get or keep himself in position.
Kosier while not flashy, and overpowering was always on his man, in position, and did not give up a tackle, and easily moved a whole lot better.
Take it for what it is worth, and I wish I had more games of Kosier, but it just seems the more I watch the better I am feeling about this move.
And it hurts because Larry Allen is one of my favorite Cowboys of all time, but with what I watched and the money involved maybe Jerry and Bill know what they are doing.
