One of two QBs drafted ahead of Favre in the 1991 draft.

One enters the HOF. One enters jail.

When you look at the breadth and depth of the devastation they have caused, its really quite scary. I'm much more afraid of drugs than I am of guns. I'm thankful I've never felt the urge or need to get high.

There was an ESPN 30 for 30 episode about this guy. He likely could've been a productive NFL qb had he not derailed into heroin, meth, coke, and God knows what else.

Meh...alcohol does far more damage every day and no one cares.

Bull. Millions of people have a couple beers everyday with no incident. You can't casually use meth or heroin.

Never understood why somebody would use something that instantly turns you into a deranged addict.

That 30 for 30 was very good. It showed a lot about the demons he faces with his addictions and in particular what led him into that lifestyle.

Now don't get me wrong here I know everyone is their own person and we make our own choices so ultimately this is all on Todd but when you watch and read about the insanely strict lifestyle that Todd was forced into by his father, from a very early age, you can see where this happened.

That dude was never allowed to be a normal kid, a normal person. He had to do everything by a strict training build that his father forced on him. When he went to college its pretty easy to see how he took all the advantage of all the freedoms that he could and ran with it.

His father, without question, shoulders some of this blame. This is the worst type of parent, IMO. You can encourage your children, help them toward their goals, and nurture all that. But when you're deciding what and who they're going to be, and their dream is really nothing more than your dream that you're forcing upon them every day...pathetic.

my comment was not about speed of destruction.

My comment was about amount of people damaged by X product daily. Alcohol wins.

That's only because of the preponderance of use. By percentage, it's the least harmful. Typically, the people that abuse alcohol and hurt people are the same people that abuse drugs, too.

I watched the 30 for 30 show and Todd appeared to be a gentle soul. He spoke as if he was creating a new direction for himself. I liked him and was/am rooting for him.

The problem for guys like Todd and Doc Gooden is that life continues on after the cameras stop rolling.

I think this is a misnomer because alcohol abuse is more easily hidden and purchasing alcohol isnt a flag to most people, like purchasing a stash of heroin would be.

But then again, my great grandparents were both alcoholic abusers that severely hurt their families and children and no one batted an eye.

I'm just saying that hundreds of millions of people drink. Most are not addicted or abuse it. That's not the case with hard narcotics. It's basically 1 to 1 user to addict with these drugs. I've never heard of an occasional crack or meth user.

The fact is that more people (like you) are just willing to ignore the obvious damage that alcohol causes in our society daily because they themselves drink and either don't want to or can't kick the habit

If you drink daily, you are likely addicted

If you are addicted you have likely driven under the influence and that is abuse

Ignoring inconvenient facts wont make them go away
