If this is so popular how come teams don't use it on "4rth and 1st or 4rth and inch's? "

The NFL seriously needs to put in a rule for this

I agree. It's bush league. It's against what I consider the spirit of the game. Ok, freeze a kicker, but don't let them call it a half second before the snap. Make timeouts with less than 5 seconds in the playclock impossible to call on field goals. Problem solved.

its definitely the in thing to do...but karma will come around soon on it

imagine some coach's feelings when he calls the TO while the guy is shanking the FG, then gets a 2nd shot and nails it to win the game

I also think the league will do something about the TO stuff in the offseason

...spirit of the game they should write in the rule that no kicker can be iced once he gets into his set position.

You can call the time out anywhere up to that point, but once he sets his kicking leg the timeouts should be waived off.

If the defensive team attempts to disrupt the kicker a penalty should be called with an additional 15 yards given to the offensive team.

Bringing the kick 15 yards closer should deter the defensive team from making any illegal attempts to call a timeout.

Like I've said in a few previous threads, I have no problem with it.

It separates the men from the boys. A good team or player will kick it through the uprights regardless.

Let the rule remain just like it is.

I have a feeling that the competition committee will outlaw it next year. They outlawed the back to back TO's for the same reason so I would expect that they would view this the same way.

On field goal attempts, a player ON THE FIELD should be the only ones allowed to call the timeout. That way everyone could see if it was in time.

You know....at first I agreed with most of you. The rule needs changed.

But what about this?

What happens if a team has too many players on the field and needs to call a timeout?

Would you say, "ooops...rule says that when a kicker is set, you can't call a TO."

I don't really know what can be done....a team is given three TOs. You get to use them when you need em....

I agree Rack. Teams have been icing the sawed off midgets chain smokers for years. I think it's smart strategy and applaud Jauron or any other coach for doing everything in their power to win for their team.

...to do the basic thing all do from peewee and on. Count to eleven. If you need to call a timeout 1 second before the kick because of too many men then it is not a strategic advantage that the timeout is being used.

In the case of the (3) FGs this year that this has happened the kick would have been good even with 12 men on the other side.

I trust the competition committee will deal with this in the same vein as the outlawing the consecutive timeouts to ice a kicker.

That's what I think. The thing I have against it is that the coach calls it purposely so that before the refs can blow the whistle and stop the play the ball is snapped and the kicker kicks it, that's cheap.

So if the kicker misses on the 1st try, but you call Timeout and he makes it the 2nd time.... isn't that Jauron putting his team in a position to lose?

I agree. if you are going to ice the kicker call the timeout before the play develops. don't sit there with ref and do it the split second before the play.

I must admit though, my first response after 2nd FG was *** Jauron (sp?) Take that mofo!!!!

Funny.... that's exactly what I screamed at the TV as if he could hear me.:D

Yeah, I have no problem with them calling a timeout, but call it before the play develops, seriously how can somebody see that and not say it's "cheap"? It's not against the rules but neither was the head slap, or offensive WR pushing off.

Yep. That's the risk you take. He was smart to do it. We just happen to have a Kicker that it didn't affect...tonight. Down the road it might, and down the road we might benefit from this too.

Got no problem with it at all.

if you want to ice the kicker, do it.

However, I think they should have to do it before the team gets set. Once the kicker and everyone is set, I think a timeout should be a no no.

So if we do it to Vinatieri next week and it works will you change your mind?

I won't even if it costs us a game. It's part of the chess match.

Don't worry...all the crap will stop once a kicker misses the game winner, only to nail it on the second attempt because some yahoo coach called a timeout a split second before the snap of the ball.

I for one will laugh my butt off too.

You ever see Phillips doing this bush league stuff?
