Who said anything about quitting? I’ve been a fan since 1971, nothing’s changing anytime soon, but I’ve heard their spin so many times…it’s old because there’s no accountability in their performance.

It’s May 5th.

Good example. Reactive rather than proactive. Too often repeating and chasing mistakes instead of learning from them and growing.
Reactive is right and so is trend chasing. Since Jerry & Giggles are incompetent football minds, the best plan they have is "hope", being reactive, and chasing trends (oh, we need a running QB). And of course, never in the history of the NFL has a franchise a) dedicated an entire draft to special teams lol (2008 draft) or dedicated a draft pick to have a "cold-weather" kick specialist lol.

Remember the 2018 off-season? Our front office decided we didn’t need expensive WRs. We can “develop our own”, and even find some cheap decent receivers in free agency. After releasing Dez Bryant, the Cowboys signed FA Allen Hurns, kept slot receiver Cole Beasley, still had a very diminished Terrance Williams. We drafted Michael Gallup in round three but he was almost a year away from finding himself. It didn’t go well.

Fast forward to mid-season 2018. The Cowboys were struggling offensively with essentially no WR to seriously threaten the defense. With no big receiving threat, DCs stacked the box and made the Cowboys offense crawl into the late October bye with a 3-4 record. So much for not needing any marquee receivers.

So Jerry picked up the phone and acquired talented young receiver Amari Cooper from the Raiders in exchange for the Cowboys 2019 first round pick. (a WR trade? Now that sounds very familiar!) The good news was Cooper was an immediate help and the Cowboys went 7-2 the rest of the season. We made the playoffs and beat the Seahawks in a wild card game that January. Only to get rolled by the rams in the divisional round.

Fast forward to the 2024 off-season. Tony Pollard is gone. The Cowboys chose not to draft a RB. We are in the midst of retooling our OL and made a big effort to address that in the draft with Tyler Guyton and Cooper Bebee. But we have chosen to re-sign the ancient, declined Zeke Elliottt while pretending that Rico Dowdle and Chihuahua sized Deuce Vaughn will be plenty good to build a good running game around. Jerry says Zeke still has “RB1 qualities”. Wow.

So…this 2024 off-season is starting to sound eerily familiar. Is a trade for a RB in the future? Before midseason? Or will we find a decent one in late summer cuts? Just in time for the regular season when the real games that matter begin. SMH. This sounds too familiar.
They got 2 udfa RBs too !
But jerry likes his guy elliot, dak likes him , so he will be the starter with 15 or more carries .
No matter how good the others might be elliot will start and get the most carries, as HE still has RB1 quality's !

Yes, we overpaid for Amari Cooper then got fleeced when we traded him to Cleveland. This is the Jerry way of doing things.
They did not get fleeced, it was a salary / attitude dump. That accounts for part of it.:popcorn:

How about when they let Murray go and thought they were okay? The following year they felt the need to draft Zeke.
Both were big mistakes, Murray had they kept him, would have given them another run to playoffs.
Elliot, it is stupid to draft a rb with the 4th overall pick !! Go DL or OL with that pick, or.............QB

I actually think we're a 10, possibly 11 win team. Our run game didn't threaten anyone last year. We have a tougher schedule, but the home/away is favorable to us. The one bad game is at 49ers.

The Cowboys did nothing in the offseason to get better results. But I'm not going to predict we'll be totally different from last year unless I get a good reason to believe that.
I think 10 to 12 wins.

Zeke led them to win the division with a rookie qb.

Bob, it’s May 4th.
They said that in 2018 also. I dont expect a big move this off season. You're simply being optimistic to believe otherwise. Jerry has gone out of his way to impress upon everyone Zekes ever present rb1 qualities.

Dallas isn't trading for a running back, either before the season or during the season... I've said it since the season ended, this is a run it back season, the window has closed for this current squad, it's not a championship aspiring team season..... lets get ready for the tear it all down after this upcoming season and eat dead cap money year in 2025 with the rebuild over the next two years..

Yea, kinda reminds me more of RB by committee in 2015.

Fortunately they picked up McFadden to help mend the fence but it was too late by then. The additional pressure on the passing game was too much and Romo was knocked out for the season. Which is a possibility for Prescott.

Maybe this is part of the plan for Jethro . Make Prescott carry the team or bust. Which if we let him play out his contract could make some sense however diabolical it is.

My hunch is we pick up somebody off waivers after a last minute resigning of Dak. It won’t be enough support for running game and Dak gets hurt trying to do too much. And we’ll have already resigned him which missing playoffs will allow everyone a scapegoat.

This is a passing team. I’d worry more about depth at WR than RB. Dak won’t just be able to force it to Ceedee all year again. He’s gonna get doubled every play and Cooks/Tolbert/Brooks/Turpin/Bryant will have to be good enough. I have my reservations that they can get it done.

I know it’s a passing team. But Dak is not a QB capable of carrying a team with the passing game. Dak is most effective with a good running game. Romo was the same. He and Dak are good but not great QBs who are at their best when they have a solid running game. Romo’s best year was 2014 when Murray led the league in rushing.

Well he’s gonna have to carry us. Jerry is putting it all in Dak’s lap this season. Sink or swim.

Cooper was making $20 million per year and his contract was structured so it was almost all salary. In a trade the team that takes him could easily restructured that deal to make money a non-issue, which is what the Browns did. They converted $18 million of his 2022 salary into bonus and prorated that over 6 years. His 2022 CAP number was less than $5 million.

The Brown chose not to restructure him again in 2023, probably because they didn't need the room. But as of now, they could cut or trade him and get a $12 million CAP save. They probably trade him back to the Cowboys for a 2nd round pick in 2025. Just kidding of course. The point is, his contract was not that bad. The Cowboys are using it for an excuse to explain why they got fleeced in the deal. That fact is, Jerry made it known Cooper would be traded or cut and that's why the best offer he got was a 5th round pick.

I'm sorry, I can't disagree with you enough. This is crazy talk. It's 10-11 wins. Anyway, I think many will be disappointed with our late round pick in 2025.

Jones looks bad...but doesn't mean he can't be around for another 20 years.
It is morbid discussion but I foresee Jerry Jones stepping down as general manager and making final decisions for football operations at age 92 following the 2034 NFL season--unless he suffers mental incompetency and the family legally removing his authority and autonomy before that time.
