Watched him get several first downs....long ones. He knows where to go to get the first down and catches the ball.

Why have we not been able to use the TE consistantly? In this effective fashion?

IS it the TE? the QB? the offense?

I want Leonard Pope in draft. At 6-7 he has the same ability. Match him with Witten and we can really exploit defenses and cause mismatches.

Holmgren schooled Fox and co today.

Stevens had a good game, but we've used Witten much more, and much more effectively.

With our bad tackles our blocking schemes utilized our TE's more.

Can't really throw to a guy thats back blocking.

It wasn't Witten's fault.

I just don't see the consistancy. Maybe I am wrong. But we will have a good TE game, and then 3 where he disappears.

Our TE's game is fine. Witten would have had an even better year if we didn't have to keep the TE's in to help block for a majority of this season.

We definitely need another TE, but Pope will be gone in the first round...I certainly don't see us using a draft pick on a TE on day 1...I think it would be smarter to sign a guy in FA...we aren't looking for a starter, just a guy who can block and be a better receiving threat than Campbell.

2005 stats......

Stevens 45 catches 554 yards 12.3 average 35 long 5 TD's
Witten 66 catches 757 yards 11.5 average 34 long 6 TD's

Witten had to stay in and block due to the O-line otherwise his stats would have been better.

So I'm not sure what your beef with Witten is.

Why do we need 2 recieving TE's? And good luck finding a TE that can Catch AND Block that won't cost us a BUNCH on the salary cap.

Surely you can't be serious.

Some of these people around here are operating at ludicrous speed.

Took Stevens 4 years to break 40+ catches. First round pick too. Me, I'd get off his jock. He's pretty mediocre.

This is a very good TE draft so the 2nd round might be a good place to find one. And if we can get Witten in the 3rd round I'm sure its possible there as well.

But I would like to see a better receiving threat opposite Witten, but the guy has to be an adequate blocker first.

I really think spending a 2nd on a TE is not a top priority -- especially if we resign Campbell (which we will do). We'd be talking about a 2nd for our 3rd TE. I know there is an interest in bringing in a 3rd TE who can catch but our #2 is going to have to be an OL (not TE) pick.

Dan Campbell was a 3rd rounder too... and what TE are you gonna find that can block better than he does without paying him a ton?

Also, if we manage to improve our OLine... we don't need near as many 2 TE's sets.
