It's tough for me to be optimistic but this thread helps with a fair perspective. The Cowboys are on the cusp. Back to back 12-5 seasons are nothing to sneer at.
This past season included a 5 game stretch with a backup QB with one game starting experience, the absence of their starting "2nd" receiver for the first month, their starting LT for almost the entire season, as well as season ending injuries to two of their three starting cornerbacks.
After the first game of the season my expectation was lowered to a break even season.
One of the reason for the end of season slump was this very young defense began to run out of gas. Remember this defensive unit featured three rookies, three 2nd year players and two 3rd year players. They either started or was prominent in a rotation package.
This defense will improve merely due to the additional experience. In turn, it will provide the Cowboys with about a two year window to take that next step.
