looking down the depth chart this team is set for the next several years. Every position has good player starting with a ton of potential starters for the extended future. taking a look at the roster:

QB. Obviously Romo will be the starter for the next 5-7 years AT LEAST. McGee has potential to be a good player in this league if he continues to develop. Kitna is obviously a short term answer as backup but i fully believe that McGee could take his spot if not this year then next.

RB. This is probably our most solid position on our team for the short term as well as long. MB3 is a solid starter in the league but is best suited as a closer. Felix, as long as he stays healthy will be a special back in the mold of Marshall Faulk as long as he continues to develop his pass catching skills. We all have seen what he can do in the open field. On top of all of this we have T. Choice who has proven he can carry the load and be productiv when his number is called.

WR. It appears that we have the best receiving corps in the league, and all of our wideouts have plenty of gas left in the tank. Miles Austin has shown he can be a playmaker and a go-to guy. He is a gamebreaker with size, speed, strength and athleticism that can take any catch to the house. RW11 as much as we love to hate him is a very good possesion receiver and as long as he can keep his head in the game, can be a gamebreaker as well as a solid red zone threat. Dez Bryant is a phenominal talent that should develop into an all-pro. The kid should have been a top 10 pick in he draft and if it weren't for his issues with the NCAA he would have been. We got an absolute steal on this kid. For the time being Pat Crayton is still on the team and he has proven to be a very good #3 threat and slot receiver. Ogletree is a speedy receiver that has shown in his limited time that he can be a reliable threat that could possibly develop into a playmaker at the position.

TE. This position is academic. We have an all pro in Jason Witten. Not much needs to be said about this stud. We have all seen it for the last several years. Marty B. has all the talent in the world and if he can translate what he showed in training camp last year he should play a key role for us in the red zone passing game. Not to mention his skills as a run blocker. Jon Phillips showed last year he can be a reliable receiving threat and solid blocker. He could possibly take Bennett's spot as backup TEif Marty does't get his stuff together

OL. Some believe this could be a weakness this year. Not this guy. we have a very good interior line in Bigg, Gurode and Kosier. At the tackle position we have a solid starter at RT in Columbo and at LT we have Free. last year DougFree showed alot when he stepped in for Columbo. Most mediots will tell you Free is not a good option because of the Minnesota game when he lined up against arguablly one of the best pass rushers in the game in Jared Allen. I thought Free did well considering it was his first action at LT and we were playing what is probably the best DL in the league. Give him time to grow into the LT spot and he should be a very solid player for us. Not to mention we have insurance with Alex Barron who has started all but two games at tackle in his whole career. At backup positions on the o-line we have the loser of Free and Barron, as well as a guy in Montrae Holland who has started and played well in this league. Travis Bright has caught the eye of this coaching staff and could developinto a good player (hopefully). Young from Notre Dame is also another option at tackle and is a four year starter in a pro style offense.

DT. at the nose we are set for a long time at starter. Ratliff is an all-pro, not much else needs to be said. The coaching staff seems to be high on Junior Siavii and he is a solid backup for Ratliff. I don't know much about Lissemore but the scouts think he has something and with our history on late round D-linemen I can't argue

DE. This may not be our best position in the long run but we do have solid starters as well as role player for the time being. While Marcus Spears may not have lived up to his 1st round billing for some, he has been very solid for us for the past few years and he is excellent against the run. Olshansky is strong as an ox and holds his position well. he is also a very god player against the run. Hatcher and Bowen have shown they can contribute in the pass rush and are very solid role players for us. Marcus Dixon has potential and could develop into a solid player.

OLB. We are set here for a long time. Ware is the best in the game. Enough said. Spencer showed alot last year, especially late in the year as a pass rusher and a fierce run stopper. Williams for Tech has potentialand hopefully he stays healthy this year so we can see what he has. Victo Butler has shown glimpses of being a good pass rusher and if he can improve his run stopping abaility, he can develop into a very reliable backup.

ILB. At this position we have a good mix of crafty veterans and young talent. Bradie James has been a good starter for the last few years and he has improved alot in the last couple of seasons. Keith Brooking is a crafty vet who plays with intensity that seems to ignite the defense. Jason Wiliams is a physical freak. From everything that I have read he has developed alot inthe last year and should be ready to contribute on defens in some way, shape or form..in the long run this kid is a probable starter with a ton of potential. Sean Lee is one of my favorite picks in the las several years. He has good instincts, a high motor, and a high level of intensity that compensate for his "lack of athleticsm" Williams and Lee should take over as starters in the next 2-3 years.

CB. Our top 3 corners are as solid as any in the league. Newman and Jenkins are pro bowl calibre players and Jenkins has planty of room to grow. O-Scan is an excellent slot corner with the potential to take over for Newman in the next couple of years. Behind these three is an area of concern. Alan Ball can play corner but everything points to him taking a strting safety spot. Jamar Wall could be a productive player if he develops properly but who knows.

Safety. Sensebaugh was a solid starter last year and we should see mor of the same this year with probable improvement due to another year in the system. The other safety spot is where it gets interesting. It appears this spot will be between Alan Ball as the favorite, and Mike Hamlin as the challenger. Ball is a solid player and played well for us last year when Ken hamlin went down. Mike Hamlin by al accounts was a ball hawk n college and could become a good player for us at this position (we can only hope) behind them we have Akwasi Owusu-Ansah who has all the size and athleticism anyone could ask for at this position. The kid was a great player in college against inferior competition and could possibly be a dark horse for the spot next to Sensy.

This team has me puped for this season and I truly believe we can and will go far into the playoffs and hopefull bring home #6!!:star:

STACKED you say? :busty:

:laugh2:

Seriously though, I agree, we have a very good core of starters at nearly every position and some young talent behind most of them.

I am more encouraged by how the guys played as a TEAM last year, for the first time since the mid 90s. Now that we have finally gotten rid of the me-first types we have a TEAM of good football players and I believe we are going all the way this year!

Yes, we have a ton of talent!

Still, I would like to see AOA get some playing time at CB in preseason...especially in the slot. We already have two young guys battling for the FS position this year with Ball and Hamlin. Sure, AOA projects to free safety with his size, but he was a CB in college and he can cover WR's one on one. I don't like what either Wall (toast), Floyd (AFL transplant) or Gordon (Charger transplant) bring to the table as the 4th CB. I want our 3 starting CB's to remain healthy all year, but you gotta be realistic about it. I think AOA should be our 4th CB, at least until we can draft and polish a more talented one.

Oline, safety and DE are suspect.
You are overrating the RB position. It is good, but MBIII is about done, Felix has to prove it over the long haul. Choice is solid, but not special.
I agree that the rest of the positions are SuperBowl caliber.

The OL is not stacked. If anything could prevent a SB run, it would
be the Oline.

Hopefully, it will get addressed in the draft and offseason next year.
I'm tired of watching Kosier get knocked into the backfield. And there
is no depth that's proven at guard.

Colombo was not ready to come back last year. If he's not the same
guy before the injury, it's a serious problem.

Otherwise, the team is really impressive this year.

Funny, I bet that's what the Rams fans are saying also. :bang2:

As always the Dline an Oline worry me the most. Very thin there.

I remember thinking we were stacked the year after the 13-3 season as well. We had injury after injury and got walloped at Philly. I'll take the wait and see approach, although it's going to be fun!

This ....^^^

We've got new starters and that always leaves a question mark. I think we saw in Minnesota what happens to Romo's QB quality when, you know, you don't block for him.

This team will go only as far as the OL can block for them...

Please submit yourself for random drug testing.

What was so outlandish about that statement?

We have a potential top 3 QB, a potential top 3 WR, a potential top 5 CB, the best DT in the game, the best OLB in the game, and solid starters everywhere. Not one of our starters could be considered below average, except for Brookings but his off the field stuff makes up for it.

I'm not sure I am ready to annoint the WR corps as the best in the league. I do think we are closing in on having a group like New orleans and Green Bay. Big receivers that are athletic and can move the chains and break it long.

This will play out during this year. The potential is there to be scary good and a real headache for other teams.

I think tossing out the anchor on the best in the league is the course best taken in May. That could change in October.

I think they're pretty solid, but I'm just not seeing a stacked team. I have a hard time calling any team stacked these days.

I know taking target practice on the kid is fun and usually justified but in this case, I am not so sure.

90's versus now.

QB: Romo wins stats, Aikman intangibles so we can argue it's a push.

RB: Emmitt vs great depth...Emmitt has the edge.

WR: Irvin is better than any WR we have but we have much better depth. Edge now.

TE: No brainer. Now.

OL: I'd say this is the biggest win for any area. 90's big.

3-4 vs 4-3 makes it tough.

Front 7: Ware is better than any player in the front 7 in the 90's, Ratliff is right there too. 90's win the depth battle. It's close, very close.

CB: Again today stacks up very well.

Safety: Is right there with OL as a big edge to the 90's.

ST: Now has a better punter, kicking was better than, coverage is about the same, returns could be a push as well with upgrades this year.

Nice rundown Whiskey,

It looks like Jerry has finally figured out (once again) how to run a franchise....that can be successful in the short and long term. Our drafting has been amazing. How many teams can say they've gotten probowl players in the seventh round and a PB WR and PB top 5 QB as UDFAs?
We've had a few whiffs in the draft but for the most part we've been wildly successful, even with late round picks. Everyone has a few whiffs, a lot of teams have a lot.
Drafting well, along with some very prudent FA pick ups...we're built for the long haul

No one remembers paper champs. That said, I too am excited about how well this ridiculously talented roster will perform this year. I'm trying really hard to temper my excitement though. The first TD by Dez will cause my my tempered expectations to gravitate outside of my window onto the awaiting ground.
