The guy just looks mean, he's mean, he's tough, he's a guy that can bring hopefully an edge to this team that we're so badly lacking. He seems to be the kind of guy that wants to do the beating, not taking the beating. There's a reason why this guy is still around and could possibly be our starting RG of the future. What are your thoughts on a player like Hoffman having an effect on this team? Please give your thoughts!!!
Well, he's a player who has to play with attitude if he wants to succeed because he has limited physical skills. Hoffman went undrafted, was signed and cut by the Browns, spent a year on our practice squad and was cut the next summer. Despite no one signing him and him making it back to our practice squad, when he got a chance during the regular season, he showed that he was going to work hard to succeed. And he continued to build on that this summer.
I give him a lot of credit for putting in the sweat equity when he's been behind the eight-ball at the start of his career. Hopefully, he keeps it up to be a solid backup and possibly a quality starter if called upon to do that. But I don't care, for instance, if a player like Tyler Smith plays with the same nasty attitude. That may not be who he is, but that doesn't mean he doesn't work hard and play hard to be one of the best guards in the league. I wouldn't consider Martin a mean player, but he's one of the best all-time. For Hoffman, playing with attitude seems to be what he needs, and I'm good with that.
