This time of year is torture for a football fan

I like this time of year....


'Tis golf season. That always ties me over nicely until football/beer season.

I agree. We (Skins) have our minicamp this weekend. I can't wait to see/hear how Campbell does with the first team offense. Of course I expect the spin from Commanders Park to be 100% positive but there will also be other journalists/media at the camp to get a more balanced perspective.

The last half of June and the whole month of July until training camp is going to suck though.

It will be nice to get back to Fed Ex on August 19th (preseason game against Jets) and actually be able to be semi-relaxed (unless someone important gets injured). Then the Monday night opener on September 11th against the Vikings...I'm stoked because I have off on the 12th anyways, so I'll be able to fully get into game mode without worrying about being hungover the next morning at work.

I've tried to get into the World Cup, NBA playoffs, French Open, Wimbledon etc...and they all are pitifully inadequate to NFL football.

Football can be a wedge in a relationship though if the other person isn't a fan, or isn't willing to devote 3.5 hours at least each week to it.

My wife isn't a football fan at all. I'm a junkie. College, pro, Internet, fantasy leagues, pick 'em leagues, etc. It hasn't driven a wedge into our relationship.
 
For the people in DFW this year isn't that bad with the Mavs in the Finals and the Rangers in 1st place. I'll even enjoy the occasional World Cup match later in the tournament once the wheat is seperated from the chaff.

I suppose its important for the other person to allow you to have your interests, and they have theirs.

I've found that some women want to be the center of attention 24/7 though, and get whiny and complain when they aren't.

I'd never give up the Commanders for any woman though, no matter how good-looking.

We are talking about summer, though. No football until late summer during TC.

But football can only be a wedge, if both parties allow it to be. But if the other person has other interests, then that's 3.5 hours a week, he/she can do their own thing.

I'm more of a football fiend than most guys I know/date/whatever and they know not to call during a game...if they want attention, that is. And I'm not very nice about them interrupting me either. :)

I consider that vital.

I wouldn't be with the woman you described in the 2nd line. No matter how good looking she was, or how good the sex was. Not worth the grief.
 
I hate this time of the year. Luckily I'm a Mavs fan as well, so it will buy me a few more days. But we are like a month and a half away from action, and it's pure torture.

The worst part is coming on here reading crap. People getting into arguments over nothing, is absolutely "chalk board scratching" torture. The same subjects over and over just makes me sick. But some of the reading is good and I do appreciate that.
 
That's why you marry a fellow Cowboys fan. You got to have your priorities straight before you get in to that situation. :D

Though my dream is to ultimately marry a die-hard, intelligent, and beautiful Commanders fan because its such a passion, I know what you mean. I think there are also benefits to being with a non-fan if shes understanding about having different hobbies/interests.

When I go with friends to watch games (either at Fed Ex), big-screen TV, or at a sports bar...we are all in a pretty sullen and bad mood after a loss, particularly after a home loss. Lets just say that if walking out of the stadium if an oppossing team tries to rub it in we aren't shy about getting nasty right back. Eagles fans are the only ones I've found particularly obnoxious (they like to shout E A G L E S....EAGLES!) in peoples faces after they win and are walking out of the stadium.

In that sense it would be nice to have a lady thats not a fan after that kind of loss to just turn the conversation to something else, interject humor and help bring things back into perspective, rather then having both parties just stewing over the loss until the next day.
