This would be my draft strategy!

Cowherd said that Seattle loves Tet. So if the Cowboys like any of Golden, Ebuka, or Burden. There is your trade partner right there. I don’t see anyone in the teens after us that wants a receiver except maybe the Seahawks. Would you take a 3rd and a 5th to trade back to 19?
If they like any of those ahead of T-Mac, you make a deal back, but you are taking a big trade loss in the deal. Could get both of their 3rd rounders and we give up a 6th.

That’s part of it for sure.

But I think the other part is teams watching his film, and seeing the production left on the field because of the quarterback.

It JUMPED out to me. Over and over and over again.

Would you consider Tyreek Hill a ‘#1 receiver’?
He is not Hill and doesn't play that fast as his timed speed would indicate. Many media scouts have compare him to Olave or Garrett Wilson, not Hill.

Going way back to Tony Pauline's rumor at the senior bowl, Cowboys are looking to target an early WR and run defenders.

-After the top 4 WR prospects, huge drop-off at the position. Might not even be an upgrade over what we already have in house at the position. Perfect world, you find a trade partner and still get the receiver you want. Furthest you move back is 17 in front of Seattle who is also looking at the position.

-Day 2 is all about finding a run defense upgrade and filling the RB position. Run defense upgrade could be at LB or DT.

Keep in mind, Eberflus is a former LB coach and his first Colts draft pick was Darius Leonard who won the defensive rookie of the year. His 1st signings were 2 linebackers with the Bears. Both Schwesginer and Knight could definitely be in play.

What about a possible NT? Williams, Collins, maybe Grant could be there at 44.

There will be good depth at the RB position on day 2, but might be all dried up come their next pick in the 5th rd.

-Day 3

#1 find depth at the corner position, perhaps target a nickel corner to compete to become the starter.
#2 take the other run defense position not selected on day 2 at LB or DT
#3 add another running back in this deep class
#4 continue to add more pieces to develop on the OL
I would trade down TWICE in the 1st round towards the late 1st. Pick up Tyleik Williams for DT. By then the Cowboys should have 2 picks for each the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Go to school with those 4 draft picks for Day 2. Address WR, RB, CB and Edge or Safety.

Cowboys need to be smart, swallow their pride, and trade down TWICE in the 1st round in order to pick up 2 extra Day 2 picks. Other teams will want T-Mac or Golden at the 12th pick. Trade down into the late teens or early 20s. Trade down again into the very late 1st round because teams will want WR Ekubah, LB Campbell and DT Harmon.

You want to trade back twice, but in this draft you might not even be able to trade out of your pick.

In a perfect world I would like a small trade down if we get wipped out at 12, otherwise stick and pick what falls to us.
I want to somehow get a second, 2nd round pick !
Whomever we end up grabbing after a trade back, WR preferably. In a perfect world I want to be able to grab on day 2 - a starting RB, and here's where I go off the reservation - I want to grab Jonah Savaiinaea with a 2nd round trade down pick. While still holding our 3rd for a DT or LBer. (Maybe a slight trade down again in 3rd to get a 4th) ....
Savaiinaea is the type of mauling RG we need, with plenty of movement skills to pull and reach the 2nd level.
I know, I know - never go in looking at a certain player, but he would be perfect to solidify our middle, protecting Dak, and blasting open run lanes.
He is my pet cat this year, and my top want for our oline.

Typical blowhards do this every year.

Matthew Golden is good, but he doesn't get wide open as much as these guys over-exaggerate. If anything, if Golden is covered tight by a good DB, he usually struggles to get space for an easier catch. Too often he does not play up to his speed. Too costly to take him at #12. Use him as trade bait to trade down in the 1st and pick up extra Day 2 picks.

Can you explain why his stats were just ok? He actually played with the best QB out of the top 4 receivers and he didn't even lead his team in receptions.
If Ewers is the ‘best QB out of the top 4’, they must be a sorry bunch.

I’d encourage you to do two things:
  1. Watch Golden’s tape. See the poor passes I’m taking about. Even in his highlights
  2. Consider that it was his first season at Texas. New system, new teammates, new quarterback. And he got better and better as the season progressed and was their top weapon by the end.

Not saying Ewers is a great qb, but he is the only one who is drafted out of the group. Burden had the worst qb by far out of the group. I worry about a player that has one big late game then moves up cause he ran a fast time. He was never in that top group until that time

You truly believe no one would want to trade up to #12 if T-Mac or Golden are sitting there waiting to be picked?
What they'll do is trade up to 11. Every year there are rumors that the Cowboys are going WR in the first, and every year they don't. Except for the year no one expected them to draft a WR.

Maybe for T-Mac but not for Golden. Many have said last years 4th receiver would of been ahead of all these receivers in this class outside of Hunter

Just indulge me and take the time to factor in those two points that I made.

Watch the passes that Golden was getting from Ewers.

And consider that was year 1 in that system with that quarterback.

Tell me who is exactly there at 12 and then I would give you what I think they would do. What if Mason Graham falls to 12 who is considered the best DT in the draft, can play 3T or 1T or 5T, then I'm taking him and figuring out WR and RB on day 2.

What if there are several trades in the top 10? What if both McMillan and Golden are taken in top 10 along with Jeanty. What if BPA at 12 are 2 TEs, 2 OL, and a QB? Heck, no one is actually sure Tennessee is going to take Ward or trade down. Carter and Hunter are considered generational players, some team might sell the farm to get one of them.

We just do not know what is going to happen, including what Jerry will do once things start going haywire in the draft.

Or they could just follow their draft board.
