For years I've preached BPA in a position of current need or near future need. Not this year. You can't go wrong taking the best player on the board.. And yes I'm including QB, RB, WR and TE

Remove kicker and punter and I could get on board with any position in round 1…I’d just like RB the least due to positional value.

OK, Tyron Smith gets reworked and extended for 3 more years till he is 35.
Peters signs and comes back as your swing tackle.
Tyler Smith says he would prefer to play tackle.......they get paid more.
Steele shows great improvement and signs a long term deal.
Martin and Biadaz are signed long term.

First round comes up, and the BPA on your board is a OT......

What do you do? Draft a player that may never start? Try to move him to a different position?

Second round comes up, and the BPA on your board is also a OT........

Do you stop taking BPA, or worry about position later, or just keep drafting OT that won't see the field, while ignoring team needs?

IMO --- the offseason is an upgrade game........at all positions and with FA and draft. Then it comes down to your ability to evaluate talent -- which it took to guess who BPA was in the first place.

I would 100% take an OT in round 1. Tyler’s skill set is best suited for LG and Tyron is likely to retire soon. Tyler filled in admirably in year 1 at LT but he led the league in penalties and was outside the top 30 in pass pro win rate last time I checked. He did not lock himself into LT of the future.

Round 2 - after taking an OT in round 1 you likely need to reevaluate your board. If it’s an OT / OG prospect and they are 10 slots higher on your bird than your next player? You take them and play them at LG.

Although I get it with Tyron and Tyler.......I just don't think it improves your team next year to get a 1st round OT, even if he is BPA.
In my scenerio you have Peters, Tyron, Tyler, and Steele who all can play and a draft picks in Ball and Waletzko.
Where does the #1 pick start?

Basically any other position and you have a starting place for him, but not there unless you move his position or someone else has to move positions.

BPA doesn't work, if you hold it to BPA only.

So BPA on my board is an OT, but my second BPA is a DL or CB or WR which you need and will improve the team greatly........do you still take the OT because he was BPA?

If the OT has a high enough grade on your board you can Tyron as a post June cut and save a ton of money heading into the season. Peters would be your backup swing OT.

If your 2nd BPA is only 1 slot behind the OT, sure, make the pic. But if the OT is clearly a better and cleaner prospect I’d take the OT.

You can always move the OT to OG if needed. Its rare that the whole line stays healthy all year.
I agree, as long as you aren't trying to build a line that plays at a high level.

From what I have experienced Guards and Tackles have differing types and skills, and while some play at a high level at one or the other, very few play at a high level at both.
