Last year it appears that almost all of the players they wanted to draft in the first round were Defensive players.
Donald, Barr and Shazier.
If any of those guys were there, they were going to take one, they thought they were taking shazier until the Steelers drafted him right before they could.
So they took the BPA in Zack Martin after Jerry was talked out of taking Manziel (who they had rated higher). It should also be noted that they were looking to trade down hoping a team wanted to move up to get Johnny but they could not get a trade partner.
I think they are looking for Defense in the first round again this year but we might have a situation again where the guys they want in the first round are gone, they might not get a trade partner to move down...so they might wind up taking an offensive player again over a defensive player.
If that happens I would imagine the top rated players (offensive) that might still be there is a RB like Gurley or Gordon. Maybe an offensive line player again but I really doubt that Jerry and gang will take another Olinemen this year in the first round.
