I know we've talked some and there's been posts about this draft not having the top tier talent, and being more of crapshoot after the first 5 to 10 players or so. But does anyone else get the vibe the low end talent of the draft isn't as deep this year either? I assume that probably has something to do with NIL, but I've noticed the Cowboys doing something they don't normally do with their roster this time of year, which is fill the depth with vet signings as opposed to waiting for more youthful signings.

- Right now we have 77 players on the roster, including the Adeniji signing today.
- We can get to 91 players total I believe this year, because I think Daxon won't count as an IPPP player, taking that 91st spot.
- That means we have 14 roster spots, and 7 to 10 of those will go toward draft picks, however many we end up with after trades.
- Plus we usually sign at least 1 additional vet after that draft.

That leaves something like ~5 spots for UDFA's? I think we usually sign closer to like 12 or 14. That tells me the team doesn't love the low end depth this year. I expect them to sign a QB as an UDFA because I know they've been scouting that tier of prospects, and probably a running back or two, but they won't have much room for many beyond that unless we get some cuts here before the draft. There's conceivably 5 to 6 low end guys on the roster now that could go away easily to make room for more UDFA's in theory too.

Will be interesting to see the roster movement over the next ~10 days.

Not all the players on the roster now will be around after the draft and UDFA signings. I am looking at the roster and see a lot of players they can cut to make room for the rookie class- Seth Williams, Jack Anderson, Luiji Vilain, Earnest Brown, Brock Mogensen, Kemon Hall, Troy Pride, and Luq Barcoo for example.

Interesting. Haven’t really thought about it but that is far fewer spots than we usually have for UDFA

The Cowboys will sign their usual amount of UDFA's again this year.

All I know is that we will have a large amount of undrafted free agents on this team. Because we have little talent.

We always have more undrafted free agents than other teams it seems no wonder why we have had no success. We got lucky with Romo and then Jerry and Stephen think we are always gonna find the right guy.

Remember the 10 draft picks do not count against the roster until they are signed.
So they can still sign those 12 UDFA's or more, plus some other FA vets players.
Then churn the roster as the draft picks sign.

Not including the upcoming draft picks, how many players would be picked up immediately as Free agents if you cut the entire roster?

Rb/WR/TE-6
QB-2
OL-8
DL-4
Lb/S/CB-6
ST-3

And that's how sad the roster is

They love finding that diamond in the rough as they say. They'd rather find the hidden gem than jus bring in a known good player.

And that very well might be true but I think this year given the fact that they've been way more active than last year but they've been more active total they still bringing in names so I don't think they're going to have a need for as many undrafted free agents they've already got an extra quarterback offensive lineman and what not there's a whole lot of activity if you look at their transaction lists since the end of the last season where they put futures guys on this team plus the guys that we've brought in since February it's a big list.

And like others have said above they can still churn the bottom and cut three or four players off the bottom if they think there's better ones available in the undrafted free agent class we know the bottom 20 plus on this roster especially the camp bodies the guys ramping up to 91 are totally expendable they're always in flux...

They will definitely be looking at the ufl as well their season will be over and they'll be guys they might be targeting so yeah there's 20 to 30 players that are here now or will be here that are going to be changing probably weekly or daily as they try to figure out who they want on this team come September..

Good OP.

I agree with CT that some of the players currently on the roster will be cut before training camp.

Some cuts often happen after the first few OTAs/mini-camps.
- Bottom of the roster players that come in out-of-shape tend to get cut in May.
- Low level players that got into some kind of trouble in the off-season tend to get cut in April/May/June.

They definitely seem to have signed more veteran "prove it" players this off-season.
- Multiple OLinemen that have started same games in the NFL and are still in their mid-twenties.

I don’t think it is any more than normal. Any low level free agents can easily be let go unless they have a lot of guaranteed money.

10 draft picks and up to 20 UDFAs. And we usually get above average UDFAs.

I expect them to trim the current roster down some.

Kemon Hall to me was caught up in the we like our guy's philosophy his play during preseason said he deserved more reps.

Come on guy ,i'm not going get into a long debate over HALL, but Let's be real here, we both know they were decimated at defensive back last year..

so, if this kid couldn't make it with regular appearances and getting snaps there was something wrong with him, they didn't like our guys, we ran at our guys last year... I guarantee that the players we had to bring in, bringing up other people's PSs, like AO and others after Butler and Diggs and we already were missing bland...Pride played but didn't he get hurt as well?

these dudes were all gone, we were rotating in no name players, what do you mean like our guys, these dudes were being brought from the very bottom, so if Hall couldn't break into that that's on him let's not make excuses for players...
But let's hope there's some truth to the fact that you think that he has some kind of game he'll have to show that this offseason.. It's the biggest hole we have right now and I know it's a week before the draft but we could use some step up at defensive back early in the season...go make a statement in Ota's , TC, and PS..make them notice you!!

You're making my point booth and that other piece of burnt toast never proved they deserved playing time once the injury bug hit the defensive back field, but hall and the other guy at least made some plays in preseason and on special teams but still were passed over for two guys that never even flashed.
