thomas jones traded

Just something else to throw out there, I'm surprised that the Bears were able to get a second round pick. Jones is in the final year of his contract, and running backs are not exactly a hot commodity these days.

And for the record, having two quality running backs isn't a bad thing, especially if you are a team like Chicago with questionable quarterback play. Chicago was 5th in the NFL in rushing attemps last year. Do they really believe Benson has shown enough to handle all those carries?

There is no way Chicago goes into next season with Benson as the primary ball carrier expected to get 25 carries a game.

the bears traded jones and their 2nd to move up like 8 spots? if thats true the bears got raped

That's what I was thinking. I don't understand that thinking. I would rather trade him for an extra 4th or even 5th rd pick than just to move up a few spots.

I could maybe see if it was to a team that had a really high 2nd.

edit: thanks guys for pointing out that it is a really high 2nd.

Chicago will probably draft a RB in the later rounds and they still have Adrian Peterson who can take some work load off of Benson.

It was a good system of having both Jones and Benson, but the odds are they were not going to be able to keep both running backs past this season. If they wait until after the season, Jones leaves as a free agent and they get nothing. It was probably easier to trade Jones than Benson. Would teams even be that interested in trading for Benson?

I hope Benson can win his teammates and fans over. I know there has been trouble there before. They gave Jones away.

Had to be done regardless.. you don't just leave your 1st round 5th overall (? or 4th) sitting on the bench the majority of the game, he was drafted to be the workhorse. I feel bad for Benson on his career thus far though.. I had high hopes on him comin outa UT.
