As I understand it, by signing Thompson we essentially gave away a 4th round compensatory pick. Moreover, it is my further understanding that if we cut Thompson, we get that 4th round pick back in the mix.

I like Thompson better than most, but we don't seem to throw him the ball very often. Wouldn't it be better to let Thompson go, get the pick back and use it to get a player or move up and target a player in the draft?

Cooper would essentially replace Thompson and we would give up a 1st, and it would almost be like getting a 4th back in a trade.

That's true as long as it happens before week 10. I would absolutely do it.

They may still be keeping him up until then in case there's a WR lost for the season, or at least I hope that's the only reason.

Got until next week I believe before we can regain that 4th rounder.
If he's on the roster by week 10 then it goes bye bye

The situation with Thompson reminds me of Benewerke. Didn't we give up a pick for him and he played minimally or not at all?

You would think so.

We already cut Butler to make room for Cooper. Cutting Thompson would leave a hole to fill. Would you replace Thompson with Butler?

I'm just saying that the pick should override keeping the player and the affect making that move would have on the team. I'm not sure we need all of these receivers anyway.

If that is true and they keep him, wow. Another horrific decision by the front office.

He was among the initial roster cuts that got us to 53 wasn’t he? If him being on the roster effects anything, wouldn’t it already be effected by him being cut?

Yup. The conditions to the trade was that he had to be active for at least 4 games.
Mainly/only played STs, but we kept him and played him in over 4 games.
Lost the 2019 6th rounder for that.

Wasnt Thompson already cut? Thus voiding the trade. They brought him back once Brown went on IR i think.

Yes and for the life of me just dont understand why they dont let him go. That 4th is more valuable then Thompson at this time. You have Cooper,Beasley,Gallup Hurns can bring Noah or Lance up if needed

That's been my understanding too and I very much expect it to happen. I'm guessing it will as long as we make it through this week of practice without receiver injuries. I don't think they'll put Thompson out on the field again to risk injury and be stuck with him.

Would y'all explain how we'd get a 4th round pick by cutting Thompson? Surely he doesn't make us lose the compensatory pick for losing Hitchens.
