The most consistent way to gain the field position advantage is to be good in special teams play. Big plays usually happen when a team or player is unprepared for a situation. On the other hand, when a team is properly prepared, they have put themselves in position to create or capitalize on a break. Therefore, understanding the scope of the kicking and return games and making them a priority are the foundation to solid special teams play.

Why is Hooker inactive? He's our best free safety. I understand Thompson on special teams but UGH... we don't have a legit backup FS now if Kazee goes down.... and Hooker is better than Kazee. Why not deactivate someone worse?

Those are because of market dynamics and market dynamics are not an analog to win shares.

Fact is that field position matters. If we can get shorter fields because Sprinkle is good blocking on returns and pin them deeper because Thompson is good in covering kicks then it helps us win.
