I think you're right unless BP decides to keep 6 CBs.

Reeves is guaranteed to make the team. BP was talking about using him as a FS in Nickel packages.

I think Thornton is still a little raw because he missed so much time due to his injury. But I think he has excellent coverage skills and will grow into the 3rd or 4th best CB on this team this season if given the opportunity.

Man, our secondary looks really promising this season. If we have the anticipated pass rush, we might actually turn the ball over this year.
Alot.

And that's what it's really all about...Not being a fan of team, but being able to tell anonymous people on a message board "I told you so..."

Hmmm... I would think you'd wait till Thornton actually became "a good cover corner" before you go thumping your chest.

If that time ever comes.

He's the 5th CB on the roster right (if he even makes the cut).

People will even prematurely grasp at straws just to be able to say, "I told you so", won't they?

In that case... I told you guys Bledsoe would be the bomb. :laugh1:

Nate Jones beats out Thornton.

Thats a classic Parcells decision. Listen to ALL his PC's. Jones is vastly better and more valuable to this team than Thornton.

Thornton hasn't really shown anything. He can't cover as well as Reeves and he doesn't play ST very well. He couldn't cover as well as Jones last year but Jones seems to have taken a step back this year so it might give Thornton a chance to sneak onto the team. If he improves his ST play he will become our new Lynn Scott; a mediocre talent at best that just keep hanging out.

Parcells has kept 6 CB's in both of the seasons he has been here.

I think he'll keep Reeves (obvious), Jones, and Thornton.

Remember, Parcells raved about Nate Jones' smarts in a press conference not too long ago.

Either way, it's good to see Thornton playing pretty decent since he appeared to be a bust at the beginning of the training camp.

Yeah he did BP did rave about Jones being as smart as he is. He said all he has to do is tell him one time and he's got it.

the problem with thorton is that they didn't think twice about giving his number to tyrone williams (what a scrub) and then he went out and blew out his knee. he was behind the eight ball after that. having said that, parcells has mentioned that he wants to see what thorton can do. it seems parcells agonizes having to cut players he drafted. he's got the same issue with sean ryan, and we know he agonized the decision to cut rogers. peterman is another one that seems to have saved a spot on the team with a good performance on thursday.

anyways my bet is thorton makes it.

The Thornton thing surprises me a bit. I think that particularly because he has shown some minor, yet steady improvements all through camp, and because he does have some success at the College level, that he really deserves another year to develop. This guy tore his knee up pretty good really early, and was a 4th round draft pick. I think he should at least get this last year. Do we really want to ditch another 4th round pick when so many of our draft picks haven't panned out. Unlike, Goodrich, Ross, Hunter, et all, Thornton is keeping his mouth shut and nose clean, and seems to be working hard and getting a bit better. I think long range he has more upside than the undrafted or 7th round picks he's competing with AND hasn't had as much chance to develop AND is still recovering from major knee surgery. I'd hate to see us miss out on another draft pick. For these reasons I think he is kept as our last CB (I think we keep 5), and we might be able to stash Jones on PS still, since he isn't as known by name or have the draft position status. Glenn probably has 1-2 years left and then another spot opens, and I'd like to stop drafting 2 corners a year and focus on QB's, Oline, and WR's in Dallas in the draft for a while.

For the same reason, I am almost certain we keep Marion Barber the 3rd as well. You don't give up on picks this early, particularly in Dallas where we have a huge hole from 5-7 years of crap drafts.

Exactly right. Thornton makes the team on the grounds that he was a Parcells pick and will get every chance regardless of the fact that he is a marginal talent. If he shows any sign of improvement he will get this year to make it and probably next year as well since he was injured last year. Sooner or later though we will have to draft or sign another CB to take his spot after Glenn is gone and Reeves moves up into the #3 spot. Thornton will be exposed by then and will be gone.

Parcells cut Rogers a #2.
He's not high on Thornton - he'll cut him.

Parcells care less about draft rounds at this point. If anything he is more proud he got a player like Jones later.....Wasn't Fergi a 6th? Petitti a 6th?
