the Cowboys versus the Eagles and NY Giants?
Vs. the Giants, I'd say that other than the WR position and the question with Burress, they have a solid offense. Their TE could be better, but they have a very good OL, a solid QB and starting RB.
I think their defensive front 7 is going to be the strength of their team, however.
Vs. the Eagles, I think a lot depends on how much McNabb has left in the tank. He was mostly healthy last year, but at his age, I don't know how frequent that is.
Also, while their OL can be good, they are clearly going to have to shift players and bring new players in.
I think their Defense is intact for the most part. I'd expect them to be solid all around.
As for the Cowboys, I'd say that our main weaknesses are
(1) Inconsistent play of the OL. This is also a function of lack of depth. I have to admit, though I am a Flo supporter, I'm worried he's going to slow down significantly - and the Giants strengths are their DL and pass rush, as is Philly's.
(2) Turnovers and penalties. It would be great to have a significant positive turnover differential.
(3) Questionable play at the Safety position. Again, this was partly due to injuries but also due to lack of talent to fit Wade's scheme.
(4) Inconsistent STs play, esp coverage units. How times did you hold your breath when we punted to the opposing team?
I think we can fix the STs and Safety position this year, and perhaps with Sensabaugh we already have fixed the Safety position.
As for the OL, we can and likely will draft depth, but we really need Free to step up. I doubt a top OT falls to us at 51.
I don't really have an answer to the turnovers and penalties, other than to focus on them during TC and pre-season. Wade has to emphasize this more.
These are just my initial thoughts very, very early in the off-season.
