...obviously the guy is a stud and that was an incredible run to get out of traffic and find the opening down the sideline, but I didn't understand why he cut back into the pursuit when he had a blocker to his inside and green turf in front of him. If he had kept running straight down the sideline he would have probably gotten it inside the 10 and maybe scored.

I guess he was trying to take it all the way and thought he could cut back against the grain and make it to the endzone.

I'm certainly not criticizing him, I just wondered if anyone else was surprised when he cut back into the pursuit as he had open turf in front of him?

I think everyone was surprised. Dez was keeping the defenders back and they weren't even closing on him. It was a gimme TD at that point. Amazing run though regardless.

I think he saw the guy coming up from behind and knew he couldn't out run him, so he cut inside to have him loose his stride.

The entire night we was running at contact instead of going towards daylight.

Olawale was like this in that Raiders Pre-season game and then bounced back against the Chargers and looked like he actually had some vision.

I expect this is a 1 time thing and it will get corrected.

We have to keep him healthy though. He's just built to get hurt.

That run was sick!! My guess is he knew he'd get pushed out so he tried to cut in and split them and go thru and finish with a td inside.

sideline becomes an extra defender many times so i can the desire to get away from it.

does look like he would have done more just tight-roping however.

The guys behind him were unlikely to catch him. I'm not sure he's ever been caught from behind he has some real good long speed.

I figured he thought he would get pushed out at some point and was just trying to make sure he was tackled in bounds to keep the clock moving. He showed great clock awareness later in the game also, on the run that was called back on a Witten penalty, sliding down in bounds after getting past the 1st down marker.

Did it remind anyone of Emmitt's run against Atlanta on Monday Night?

Just rewatched and he definitely would have got way closer or scored if he stayed the course.

I think he was going to be caught and decided to try to cutback and score. Would have gained more yards going st8 in hindsight but you're nuts to criticize that run. Wish he had Dorsett's or Walker's speed but he's plenty good enough. I hope he can stay healthy. Not sure what's up with Felix.

It wasn't criticism. Just interested in everyone's thoughts and several posters gave some good insight as to what might have been going through his head.

Unbelievable talent. I just hope we can keep him healthy.

I agree. I do think he felt since the defender had the angle on him that he knew he would not make it so he tried to cut under the pursuit. Great run on his part anyhow. What looked to be a loss of 2 or 3 ends up being a big gainer.

I wondered why he cut back in also. I think he would have scored if he kept running straight. They were discussing this on the radio about 10 minutes ago, and one of the guys thought maybe he was running out of gas. I guess it's possible, but if that were the case, I would imagine he would have just run out of bounds.

I think he was running out of gas and figured his best shot was to break an inside angle.

Reminded me of the run last year he had against the rams (i think) where he ran out of gas.

Regardless of the end of that run, Murray is a great find for us and I'm glad he's on the team.:starspin

I was thinking of that run against the Rams last night. He basically ran out of gas and just dropped. At the time I thought he pulled a hammy.

He was running out of gas and the Giants defenders were quickly eating up field on him. He basically had two choices .. to either get as many yards and he can and run out of bounds, or try the cut back and hope the Giants over pursue chasing him down at full speed.

The one in the Rams game last year I think he explained as not trying to turn a big play into a bad play.

I posted this concern in another thread....

If Murray is running out of gas like this......then he needs to be in better shape.....end of story.

I gave him a pass last year because it was his 1st year....

Last nite there were a few times I wondered what Murray was doing.....The one down the sidelines....he took a extreme left to look for contact...when he could of just kept on running down the sidelines....right behind Dez...

Then there was another.....he broke free up the middle....and ran right into Dez .....hard too ....and Dez got up shaking his hand or arm....looked like he was hurt. The problem I had with that run was....there was room to run in open space and Murray looks for contact.

Baffles me.....I like Murray.....he runs hard......but we need him to be in better shape...looks like he runs out of steam anytime he breaks a run.

Did he have a workload? Sure did....but so did E.Smith and I never seen him give up on a run and look for contact.

Its concerning ....
