Thoughts about Booker, 1st rd opinions!

Booker was the best OG in the draft. We have to replace the HOFer that just vacated the position at RG.

I don’t put as much stock as some people do in this, but Booker is unquestionably a leader and dawg on the field. The position is now settled for the next 8-10 years.

The Cowboys telegraphed their concern with the OG position signing 2-3 guys in free agency.

We are in a division with really good DT talent; you have to have be strong up the middle.

I'd grade the Booker pick as a D.

I've said that rule zero of the draft is "pick a good player", and Booker's a good player, so I can't entirely hate the pick. But he's a high floor, low ceiling type of power guard. We see dudes like him go in the 25-50 zone in most draft classes. Given where Jackson and Zabel went, I bet Booker would have been drafted earlier than that this year, but he's still a super uninspiring pick at #12.

Howie Roseman would have drafted Tyler Warren at #12. Don't overthink this stuff.

Couple thoughts on the rest of the first round. Overall, it was a pretty chalky round... not a great class, but most teams made pretty sensible moves.

-Jacksonville screwed up. I think Hunter can be an elite WR and an elite CB, but now he HAS to be to justify two likely-high 1st round picks. The Jaguars are betting the farm on something that hasn't happened in 70 years.

-I wouldn't have picked Colston Loveland over Warren, but I'm not super surprised that it happened either. Loveland is damn good. Better than I initially realized, that's for sure, and I'd bet that the NFL recognized that talent from the word go.

-Jalon Walker just feels like the next Atlanta bust DE. I don't hate their trade up for James Pearce, cause I think that Pearce is a top 10 talent in this class, and probably would be in most other classes. But if you like Pearce that much, why did you pick Walker over him?

-Jahdae Barron was an awesome pick by the Broncos.

-Derrick Harmon is the perfect Steelers lineman.

-Omarion Hampton is going to rush for a billion yards on a Jim Harbaugh team. I think the Chargers were in an ideal "cherry on top" situation for adding an RB, where they've got the QB, they've built the offensive line, they're going to rush a ton, and now they just need more talent at running back.

-I don't like Jaxon Dart as a quarterback, but the Giants had to do something at QB, and giving up two extra 3rds is probably worth it. It's a damn sight better than drafting Shedeur at #3. Speaking of which, I'm a little surprised that the NFL hates Shedeur so much. I know he's not a great prospect, but I figured some team would get desperate (like with Dart here).

-I didn't like Malaki Starks as a prospect, but he's the perfect fit for the Ravens. Last season, Baltimore had to move Kyle Hamilton back to deep safety to have a functional defense at all. Starks is an adequate deep safety, but his real value is as a force multiplier, because he'll allow Hamilton to move back to nickel and destroy teams there.

-Josh Simmons and Jihaad Campbell were two big gambles by teams that can afford to take them. I like it.

i had no problem with booker.
i think him and tyler smith will be an epic guard duo.
unless im wrong,he is the first bama player in rd1 we've drafted since lee roy jordan.
the first bama player...regardless of round...since rb bo scarbrough.
im stunned they even saw him since stephens blinking lights ignore those crimson ones from bama.

Booker was 28th on the consensus board and is a low value position. Factor in that plus the OL not being one of our biggest weaknesses and the pick is pretty bad IMO.

Reach + low value position + not huge need = really bad in the top 15.

i never considered him because i figured he wouldn't be there.

He is a reach cause of his positional value, but one of the safer picks. Could of swung for the fences and taken a Nolen or a Stewart, but they both have bust potential. Mykell Williams was my hope, he went a pick ahead of us.

Yeah, if we'd gone for Nolen or Stewart and they busted, everybody will be mad. Booker is a meh pick. No one expects him to bust, but he doesn't move the needle. We didn't suddenly become a contender because we got a potentially All-Pro guard, because we've got below-average RBs behind him and we've got no bona fide No. 2 receiver and our defense still has holes (and some would throw in who we have at QB).

Honestly, though, no first-round player was going to make us a contender because we just have too many holes. Other than feeling we were OK at OL and should have used the pick to address one of those holes, I have no problem with Booker.

I wonder if B Hall from the Jets can be had for a day 3 pick. Think there could be some 1st rd grades still left in: Will Johnson, Burden, Revel. Really want Schwes. at 44 and trade back from 76 to get our 4th back.

It depends on if the Jets grab a back. I want a fresh legs back with 4 years of control. Hall only has one year left. I would offer a 6th round pick but that would be it.

Sometimes safe is the best move , if it moves the needle on the entire team. Time will tell, but I think this one move does give us some juice, helps us set a tone in both sides of the ball and in the lockerroom. Not trading back might have been a blessing.

Yeah I really wanted us to trade down when our pick came up. There was no player left at 12 that t was all that happy with. Drafting Booker was a good move because he fits in what the coaches want to do. Not to criticize McCarthy and his coaching staff but Mazi and Guyton didn’t fit at all.

It depends on if the Jets grab a back. I want a fresh legs back with 4 years of control. Hall only has one year left. I would offer a 6th round pick but that would be it.

With the big boys within the interior, I think they may target more of a power back then one of those speedy outside runners. Judkins, Johnson, Martinez, etc.
