Heard all offseason that the Cowboys wanted to get more physically tough. Jerry Jones said that they wanted a lineman who had positional flex, can play in any gap scheme. Said multiple times throughout the process that I heard they were looking at tackles who can kick inside and eventually replace Tyron down the road. It became abundantly clear that they weren't looking an interior lineman, but more so at the Tackle position. Reason why they didn't show much interest with Linderbaum, even Zion Johnson, but rather Cross, Penning, Rainmann, etc. There are whispers that Tyron's game is starting to decline.

Tyler Smith fits what they wanted to accomplish. Physically tough, has legitimate future left tackle upside and can see the field right away as an Guard. His best trait is his ability to move people in the run game. Had the most pancake blocks last season in college football. Yes, he needs a lot of work with his technique, but he appears to be a good kid and very coachable. XWalker has mentioned his OL Coach was very young and inexperienced, the hope is with better coaching he will quickly develop into a high level starter. Tyron Smith was a mess when he came to camp, but he put in the work, there is no reason why Smith cannot do the same if his works on getting better.

We debated him on this board a whole lot, I liked him, but rather in a trade down scenario due to his rawness, but there is no doubt he has 1st rd talent. I envision him as our day 1 left guard starter and replaces Tyron in the next 2 seasons.

Smith has already shown ability to take coaching and improve. He was a 2 star with no Texas offers out of high school and improved his stock to be a first rounder. He didn’t do that all on his own.
If he has the want to, he will become a very good player. Cannot teach what he possesses, length, size, power, etc.

And just turned 21 on April 3rd. Atleast he has a good attitude. And as y’all said he takes on coaching pretty well. Really like he’s gonna be a LG for us .

As stated earlier, the mentorship of Zack and Tyron for this kid will go a long way.
I just heard the hidden call, seems like a very humble guy who will put in the work to get better. If he has the so called want to, he will become an elite starter down the road, but we must be patient as he needs some development as a pass protector.

If he has the right mindset(which it seems like it) then the Cowboys hit on another 1st round player.
It may be "ugly" at first but if he works on his game I can see him paying off.

Don’t like it because I don’t think Dallas is the team to take and change a highly penalized tackle needing work on his technique. Just something about Dallas they are sloppy and undisciplined and have been for awhile. Probably the culture in Dallas.
