Thoughts after two games

Actually it's guys like you who can't handle healthy debate and criticism when discussing our team that keep it alive. That instead of debating and discussing the topics, instead just assume the person making the criticism is a hater.

It's about as shallow thinking as one can see on a sports message board. It takes zero intellect to make that argument.

to be fair this has arrived over time here and other boards. The haters and homers .
I do think this subject is very useful because if all of us could find less toxic language then maybe the flaming would be less intense.
My flaaut is a auto react to criticism [ Dak and Garrett]because some is so stupid. Others are valid.

You are literally posting in a thread where I laid out a bunch of positives this far in preseason as well.

You and Soupcan are clearly in a race for board’s biggest fool.
You did post a thoughtful post its appreciated but to be honest you are a gunslinger

Starters have looked well and that's encouraging. DL, once thought to be the bane of our existence, looks to be the deepest this team has seen in years.

OL and S depth were flaky before the injuries to Martin and Woods. Showers has probably played his last down for the Cowboys and I don't think he would have made the team anyway, but sucks to see him injured.

As is every season, it's been defined by injuries. If we can stay injury-free for the most part, we'll do alright. If the OL starts dropping, it's game over.

Lastly, Chaz Green is poop.

Totally agree on all points. But the chances of all key players staying healthy all year long are miniscule. Having said that, it depends also on when they're injured. The first SB wild card winner, the Raiders, had early injuries, when they got those guys back, they were impressive in the last half of the regular season and the playoffs. So if there's any silver lining to Martin, Woods and others injuries, it's that it's still preseason.

And I don't know what the coaches see in Green, honestly, unless they need him for camp body. He's not just inadequate, he's going to get Dak or Zeke hurt if he stays in games....

My big takeaways from this:

-Offense looks kind of blah, same old power running/dink and dunk we've had for the last 2 years, but it's been working.

-Defense looks fast. The rush is firing upfield, LBs are closing, DBs are hitting. It's not a top-5 shutdown unit, but it's going to be the best defense we've fielded in a while.

-Dak is still Dak. Still a smart, mobile, high-percentage checkdown guy - he's basically Donovan McNabb Jr. What I don't see is a level of aggressiveness and willingness to throw the ball down the field. He hit a really nice bomb to Gallup vs SF but other than that everything has been inside 10-15 yards.

-Jaylon looks like a whole new dude. Still looking raw as far as instincts but physically he is playing at a whole different level from 2017.

-Lawrence isn't a fluke.

-Rookies haven't been too inspiring so far. LVE was OK week 1 and out week 2, Williams had an OK week 1 and a very rough week 2, Armstrong, Schultz, and White are all playing with the 3rd team. Gallup's looking good though. I'm not jumping to any conclusions yet, Jaylon and D-Law are proof that you should never judge a draft pick too early, but I don't see many of our draft picks having a big 2018 impact.

-Overall, I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. The 1s were beating up on SF and Cincinnati pretty easily with both Zeke and Sean Lee out. If we can take out the straws that stir the drink on both offense and defense and still have that kind of success, I think we are in pretty good shape for the regular season.

The 3 yard pass was to Hurns, not Bailey.

It concerns me also. But this is where you really need a true NFL coach and not one that slaps your butt on every single play.

If the Tuna would have been coach, and Dak did that - Tuna would have given him the 3rd degree. No way that would have gone easily with the Tuna.

Thats the problem with Garrett. He is too soft on his players. No accountability for piss poor plays. That was a piss poor play by Dak and the coaches should have ripped him a new one for not getting the first down.

Until this franchise gives me a reason to stop criticizing, i’ll keep slinging. 20 years of ineptitude does that to people.
Thats your decision of course
Personally I see reason but your a grown man have at it

Defense has potential to genuinely be elite this year, especially if we get Earl. The offense, I don't know about.

In pre-season??

Maybe I am thinking of a totally different play then or confusing it, but I thought the blitzer from the left was picked up.

If I have that wrong, my apologies.

Yeah I think you’re thinking of a different play. On the 3rd and long, on the first drive, that wasn’t converted and led to a punt. The blitzer was untouched with a free run from Dak’s left side.

Now, one could question why protection wasn’t adjusted. But I’m not sure whose fault that is, or if it’s a consequence of it being pre season with what I imagine are basic protection packages. Or if Dak failed to adjust the blocking himself.

But if Dak doesn’t throw that ball immediately he would have been drilled.

Reason to have hope? I guess. But at this point I can’t put total faith in the guys leading this franchise.

Im not in the mood to debate the issue over the last four years. We all know the work successes and failures. Either your a believer or your not. Frankly I dont care flaming is becoming detrimental.

It's true that our 1s have out played the competition but our 2s and 3s have been badly out played.
Yep. That’s been the case for years . We have little if no depth and why if any of our stars go down we struggle.

I see. So I can't evaluate QBs because I wanted the better QB in Wentz.

Good stuff.

I don't know what to tell you, creampuff. When I watch my team gifted the next great franchise QB and they pass for slop like this it kind of pisses me off.
Cowboys picked 4th...they never had a shot at Wentz but keep crying......

Went back and watched the game again.
Taco was better than I thought.
Had pressure a couple times besides the sack. Nice TFL that Woods was in on too.
A. Woods gets off the snap quickly and showed nice power against the Bengals first round Center, Price (#53).
A few times Cincy tried to run and they couldn't get anywhere because big ol #64 was in the way. Nice game for him.
Brian Price wasn't bad as I originally thought.
He did get overpowered on a goalline TD run
by Cincy, but he was decent otherwise.
3Ts were fairly invisible.
Collins is getting back at the perfect time.
Jaylon is pretty rangy in coverage.
Joe Thomas almost had another pick.
Jones + Awuzie are very good so far and look like playmakers- Awuzie with the INT,
Jones with the fumble recovery and tipped pass that Joe Thomas nearly picked off.

This excuse again?

The Eagles were picking outside of the top 10 originally. They identified the value of the player and went up and got him. The Cowboys sat still. Just watched it happen. With Wentz 1st overall on their board.

I know it hurts your fan feelings but that was an enormous mistake.
