Rush has 2.75 mil guaranteed contract and 5-1 W-L record. Grier's chances were always quite dim, and with the Trey trade...not a prayer.

Jumbo075 - Offense in this reponse.
Bass, Luepke
Hoffman over Farniok -- I choose the scrapper who can be coached up to be disciplined

The injury histories of the OTs give me pause‐--
Edoga - only 26 games, 13 starts in FOUR SEASONS = 68 games? Waletzko - one shoulder put him on IR his rookle season...now the other shoulder during preseason this year?

Going with Brooks to fill the 4th spot.

On Defense ---
Land, Golston, Harper, Thomas, Mukaumu
Scott - even though he fell off some from TC into preseason
Joseph - move to slant CB combined with ST (eliminate the penalties)
keeps him on the team.

A fond adieu to C.J. Goodwin - a 2014 UDFA who scrapped and hung on in the league for 9 years with 7 teams (and whose to say he doesn't latch on to another squad for 2023?).

  • Grier probably secured an NFL future tonight, just not at the Cowboys. It does create pause for him taking a spot ahead of Rush
  • Luepeke may have earned himself a spot on the roster as an all-round H-back ahead of Davis and McKeon. Or he might be a PS elevation, regardless he put himself in the mix
  • I think Joseph did enough to earn the backup slot spot. I think he showed some great improvement
  • Jalen Tolbert is more of a WR3b rather than a backup WR. His progress was massive
  • We've got some decent linemen coming up in Bass, Richards, and Walezko. All should make the 53-man squad
  • Juanyeh Thomas should not be cut. He's our best backup FS if Hooker goes down

My 53 man guess:

  • QB: Dak, Lance, Rush *I'd pick Grier but don't think they will
  • RB: Pollard, Dowdle, Vaughn
  • TE: Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Hendershot
  • WR: Lamb, Cooks, Gallup, Tolbert, Turpin
  • OG: Martin, T.Smith, Richards, Bass
  • OC: Biadasz, Farniok
  • OT: Steele, T.Smith, Walezko

  • DE: Parsons, Lawrence, Williams, Armstrong, Fowler
  • 1T: Smith, Hankins, Bohanna
  • 3T: Odigzuwa, Golston, Fehoko
  • LB: Clark, LVE, Cox, Harper, (Look for a trade or pick up on waivers)
  • CB: Diggs, Gilmore, Bland, Joseph, Mukuamu, Scott
  • S: Kearse, Wilson, Wilson, Hooker, Bell, Thomas

  • ST: Anger, Aubrey, Sieg
I think we will do some roster moves with veterans to find spots for Luepeke, McKeon, Brooks, and maybe an unknown LB. Sometime between now and week 3
The only thing I disagree with is at CB. Joardan Lewis is making this team. I think it will be Joseph that is out.

I think Gallimore and Cox are 2 vets who may get the pink slip.........both played Sat with a bunch of PS players.

It is far more difficult to determine who to keep these days. The Cowboys will be cutting genuine talent that other teams will grab quickly

It has been quite a while since the personnel decisions have been this difficult, a tribute to the quality of this roster. Many of the anticipated PS candidates won't be available to the Cowboys.

There are always cut surprises, some fan favorite or some veteran competing against a younger version of himself.

I don't have Josh Ball as a lock and I don't think it's a certainty we go 25 offense - 25 defense but otherwise spot on.

There was talk that the Bengals had interest in Cooper Rush to serve as Burrows back-up and recently, especially given Burrows suffered a minor injury, that the Bengals would be interested in trading for Rush.

Whether Dallas would actually trade Rush and after Grier's performance last night decide to make him the #2 instead of releasing him remains to be seen. That said, Rush's contract goes through 2024 and is such that if Dallas traded him they would have $625K in dead money in 2023 and 2024 but actually have a cap savings of $1.5M in 2023 and $2.25M in 2024.
Grier's contract is only through 2023 and if Dallas releases him as they have said they save $1.08M against the cap.

Bohanna was absolutely terrible tonight. I haven't seen him outplay Mazi in any of the preseason games.
Nice try.

Bohanna graded out very well last season. AV 5.

Let’s cut our young 1T in favor of Mazi, who is likely a bust.

Just watch Bohanna in the preseason this year. You can't say with a straight face that he played well like he did last season.

Mazi has much more talent than Bohanna. He isn't special and hasn't played better than Mazi this preseason.

If you say different, you either have a bias or haven't really sat and watched film on them both
