So, I was at the game last night and really disappointed. I wanted to wait a day before posting on here before I posted things I didn't mean.
Here's some of my random thoughts:
1. The pre-game ceremony and halftime show were great. I may have not liked the musical acts, but it just gave me a great feeling. The stadium was one. Cowboys fan. Jets fan. It didn't matter. We were American. Chants of "USA! USA!" took over the stadium and it was great. I felt so proud.
2. MetLife Stadium is absolutely annoying. Every time the Jets get a first down, the PA announcer goes "And that's a Jets..." and the crowd yells "FIRST DOWN!" It's annoying. I live 10 minutes from that stadium and I love live football, but I will never go to another Jets game unless they're playing my Cowboys.
3. I'm not sold on this defense. Say whatever you want about the defense playing well, but I disagree. They let Mark "I'm a 50-something percent career passer" Sanchez throw for over 300+ yards. You've got to be kidding me. Lining up Bradie James on Holmes and Ratliff at safety might be the dumbest thing I've seen in a football game. The secondary doesn't need work. They need better players. I did feel that Barry Church played well and Alan Ball did a solid job filling in for Scandrick.
4. The young offensive line needs work. But, I think it can and will be corrected by the end of the season. I thought they were pretty good (not great) against a good defense at holding up on passing plays. I think they need to get better at run blocking. I felt there was too many times when Felix carried the ball on 1st or 2nd & 10 for only a 2 yard gain. Everytime I looked up it was 2nd or 3rd & 8.
5. I don't blame this loss on Romo. Did he make some bad plays in the 4th? Yes. But he put them in position to wrap the game up on that great pass to Witten. The INT was definitely Dez running the wrong route. No matter who says it was Romo's fault, it was definitely Dez's. He's inexperienced and made a mistake. The pass was thrown to well to that spot for it to have slipped. Romo took blame because he's the QB and team leader and that's what leaders do.
6. A major turning point in the game was the punt block. It happened in front of my endzone and I felt it was gonna happen before the play. You kind of just had the feeling before the snap, that this isn't going to go well. I know they said that McKnight got through Albright and Phillips gap, but live, it looked liked Jesse Holley was just out of position.
7. The Cowboys starting receivers played well overall. They're going going to play corners that good again until they play the Eagles. I feel good with them against all NFL secondaries.
At the end of the day, I feel good about this team. At worst, they'll be competitive, which is an improvement over last year.
