Obviously I'm not a scout so take it for FWIW. I watch a ton of college football and obviously all FSU games and thought I'd share a few opinions:
Dalvin Cook:
BEAST and in the right situation likely rookie of the year. Ridiculous game speed. He will run well today at the combine, but with pads on his acceleration is just different . I saw him turn the corner against legit competition (Michigan, UF, Clemson)-future NFL players with the angle. In 2015 I saw him turn the corner against Louisville live while playing though a hamstring injury. He accelerated past two defenders with the angle and was about to house it, but pulled up before his hammy gave, then shook his head and tossed the ball to the ref.
Slippery, smooth, breaks arm tackles-more powerful than you think. TOUGH kid-will play hurt and injuries are a concern to me. Hamstring his SO season and shoulder last year. Played through it and wasn't himself in 2016 year until around game 4 or 5. That's the only risk-can he stay healthy consistently? Very good WR, worked hard at it. Solid blocker, but could get better in this area. Some similarities to Zeke being that it's not about the wiggle (though he does have some of that), it's about being patient, decisive and running past or though the defender. Zeke is more powerful, Cook is faster. Both are good receivers, Zeke is the better blocker. The biggest plus for Zeke in a comparison is durability-I don't remember Zeke being hurt at OSU. Dalvin does need to improve ball security a bit. Good kid that came from a tough area. GREAT teammate.
Obviously Dalvin isn't a prospect for Dallas and given the choice I'd stick with Zeke anyway. But I do believe Cook is the best RB in this draft. He doesn't need an offense built around him like Fournette. I DO NOT want this kid in the division. He's a game changer.
Demarcus Walker
Demarcus was a captain and team leader at FSU. The kid really worked hard after Brad Lawing took over at DEs for FSU and his production as an upper class an was outstanding with 10 and 16 sacks his Junior and Senior seasons.
Lawing did an excellent job of moving Demarcus around for favorable matchups. He absolutely destroyed Ole Miss and Michigan inside and whipped UF off the edge. Kid really sets the edge well against the run too.
I have concerns about Walkers ceiling. Has he maxed out? He's not going to run well at the combine and I'll be curious how strong he measures. He's a bit of a tweener also. Probably an early down SDE that can move inside as a pass rusher.
He's not going to be a WARDADDY. He's not a speed rusher and never will be. He will be a solid rotational DL that will give max effort so Rod may really like the kid. I seriously doubt he goes in the first with this group of DEs. I wouldn't be shocked if he fell to the third. 60 is a decent spot for him.
Rod Johnson
A 6'7, 298 OT prospect, Rod has Boom/Bust potential. Highly touted high school prospect that FSU plugged in at LT late in his FR season and he looked fantastic. I was certain he'd leave early and be future 1st rounder. Well I was 1 for 2, as he did leave as a JR, but mainly due to the weak overall OT class. Rod simply hasn't progressed as expected. Taco got the best of him in the Orange bowl and I thought that might push him to come back. I wonder if he'll play better when surrounded by a better unit, as FSU's OL was full of pro's in 2014 (Cam Irving, Bobby Hart, Tre Jackson) and the unit's play has slipped the last two seasons. Needs to get stronger, maybe he'll be more dedicated at the next level. He's quick, good feet, has all the tools.
He's not read to play so I'm not sure how Dallas fits him on the roster if they are keeping Free, Green and Cleary. Certainly his upside is higher than Cleary. Would be an interesting selection in maybe the 4th round to develop at RT, but I think he may come off the board sooner. I don't think he'll ever be a mauler at RT, so maybe not the best fit for the power running game. if Green could ever stay healthy and take the reigns at RT, Rod would be a perfect swing tackle.
