Everyone has an opinion, right? Here are some of mine after that awful game last night.
First, I never thought this team was going to be good to begin with. I thought going into the season 6-10, 7-9 would be their record. With all the injuries I have to think it will cost them 2 or 3 games so 4-12 is where I would put them now.
The team is too slow on defense. They are also soft. Watching Murray, Hopkins, Drake and Kirk run through around and past them just exemplified the need for speed. The Cowboys LBs are always a step or two behind getting to the outside edges and the DEs are terrible at setting the edges. It's a bad combination.
Zeke's fumbling problems are inexcusable and unacceptable. I wonder if Jimmy Johnson was the coach of this team would he have benched Zeke last night. If Zeke fumbles again next week, whose fault is it?
At the same time, the fumbles are not the reason the Cowboys fell behind 21-0. Yes, the fumbles are bad, but shouldn't the defense step up and make a stop after a turnover just once? The defense was lucky Murray was off last night with his errant passes to wide open receivers. Which reminds me, Murray is not as good as Dak. He can run, but his arm is erratic. How long before Murray gets hurt like Dak. He is tiny compared to Dak.
It was clear Jaylon Smith was the spy on Murray last night, but Murray beat him outside every single time. Not once did Jaylon get out there and cut him off. And where is the pursuit?
The defense is not playing as a team. There is no swarming the ball. Not team pursuit. They are all waiting for someone else to make the play.
It is not just that Dallas turned it over 4 times, but they went another game without a take-away. At some point you'd think the other QB would make a mistake and throw it to a Dallas player, right?
If any team lost 4 of its five starting offensive linemen, the 4 best, and its starting QB, how many games would you expect them to win? Answer: Not many. 4 maybe? Why do we expect the Cowboys will be any better? They are going nowhere this season. They should start cutting dead wood and start looking for better players. Start with Edgar Allan Poe.
Andy Dalton played about as I expected him to play last night. That is who he is. I suspect he will get slightly better as he gets used to the receivers and they to him. He wasn't terrible but he wasn't great. He played like a $3 million QB. He is not going to run for many 1st downs like Dak but he will step up into the pocket and make a few plays. The Cowboys cannot win if Andy Dalton has to throw 54 times.

Another blown coverage. Pollard forgot he needs to block sometimes. The refs made some bizarre calls, or non-calls. It was a team disaster. Expect more of the same.
