Thoughts on Jason Garrett & ESPN

I'm sure some of this has already been posted, but since I haven't been on here all week, and I don't have time to scan the posts, I'll take my chances.

*Here's hoping that Jason Garrett has learned from the last two games. In both, he had a chance to ice away the game by using his NFL leading rushing attack. Both times, he chose to pass, putting the defense in the unenviable position of trying to protect a lead of 6 points of less at the end of the 4th quarter.

With Romo struggling against the Giants, Garrett still insisted on passing anyway, giving up his third int., and allowing the Giants back in the game. Those two pass plays when we had it 2nd & goal at the 1 1/2 yd. line with 12:30 to go against Carolina were like nails on a chalkboard.

Jason, dance with the one who brung ya. This team's strength now lies in the running game. Please use it Sunday against the Broncos...on the goal line too.

*Ya know, I don't like to refer to anyone as a 'hater'. I believe you can still criticize a certain aspect of a team without being a hater. After watching MNF & afterwords, I have no doubt about ESPN being 'Cowboys haters'. On MNF, Mike Terrico ripped the stadium, Steve Young ripped the entire team, and NFL Live made derogatory statements about Cowboys Stadium, referring to it as "Jerry World". Then, what really ticked me off, was when they came out with their Power Rankings. Not only did they rank the Cowboys as the worst 2-1 team in the NFL, but they put the 1-2 Steelers AHEAD of us!!

Being the leader in sports broadcasting, you'd think they would at least try to fake objectivity, but they don't even bother. They kiss up to all of the Boston teams because most of them are freaking bean eaters themselves. IMHO.

I'm going to make this short and sweet.

Coaching gets blamed when players do not execute.

The PA call against NY was brilliant. Why would you call PA when you have not just established the running game. That's when you take your shot. Romo did not see Phillips, and made a mistake.

The fade to Roy. I like it. With the weapons we have, the fade needs to be a weapon in the redzone. Maybe not from the one, but it will set up future calls, I guarentee you that.

The 2nd fade was a dumb decision, simple as that. You tried the fade. It didn't work. Now just run the ball in from the 1-yard line, no excuses for that.

I've found it's pointless to get worked up over ESPN...They've gone from being a broadcasting company of sports to a sideshow onto themselves...Trying to be a story themselves rather than simply broadcasting the sports...I have no doubt that they largely are ratings driven and the more nonsense and 'controversial' drivel they can push, the more they do it...They're a joke but they're the biggest broadcaster of sports going...I'd love to see another network rise up to sink them

What about playing out of the shotgun late in the game? It left no threat of play action. They had no RBs beside Romo, so NY knew all they had to do was rush. It made no sense. Garrett did that more than once.

No threat out of play-action from the shotgun?

Perhaps you've missed the several draws we run out of shotgun every game.

Now, no RB's beside Romo is more risky I agree.

True but then you have more guys in the rout. Romo was clearly off in the NY game I don't think anyone in their right mind would dispute that but Dallas Oline did a good job vs the Giants pass rush so having more guys going out in passing routs was not much of a risk given the protection they gave Romo

Garrett is doing a great job, in my opinion. We are 2nd in overall offense (I think) and 1st in rushing offense. We came within 1 drive, of being 3-0. What does GOOD look like, if that isn't good?

I wouldn't worry to much about power rankings in the pros! This is not college. ESPN has a bunch of ex-NFL players who got beat up my the Cowboys, so there is always going to be hatred against the Cowboys.

I love it!! I live in New York, so I'm always going at it with Giants fans. I have been a Cowboys fan for 35 years!! I love the BOYS!!!

As I said, with NO RBs in the backfield. Of course PA is possible w/RBs back there, and the lead draws they've run, whether out of the shotgun or from behind Center have been some of the best run plays Garrett calls. Look, I'm not ripping Garrett all around. Some of the plays run Monday night were excellent schemes.

All I'm saying is that, when you have one of the biggest OLs in captivity & you've been running amok all night, don't out-think yourself. I loved it when JJ would run Emmitt up the middle near the goal line. He didn't care that everyone & their momma knew what was coming. Nothing is more demoralizing than to know 100% that the other team is going to run the ball, & they run it right down your throat anyway....that's all.

That strategy can backfire as well.

Philly stopping Emmitt on a 3rd and 1, 4th and 1, and then 4th and 1 again.

But I see what you're saying, but Garrett is a QB, and Romo is one of the best in the game, so I cant fault them too much for passing.

How many times did he do that? I don't have the video, but from the play-by-play, the Cowboys were in shotgun a total of 3 plays on non-TD-scoring drives in the 2nd half. One of those plays was a 3rd-and-7 and another on a 3rd-and-8. That leaves one play - the 2nd-and-7 with 12:46 left in the 4th quarter - where they were in the shotgun in a possible run situation and the drive ended up failing.

Let it go Cogan?

If you don't say Garrett is the best OC and Romo is the best QB in the game, you are hating on them, by saying the Cowboys should recognize that their running game should be their strength.

I'm just joking.

That was for the guys that kept saying that I and a few others that share that view would complain anytime Garrett called a pass play.

See, I can use extreme examples of hyperbole to attack opposing viewpoints also.:)

I never look at the power rankings anymore. They mean absolutely nothing to me.

The one person on that crew that was completely honest (IMO) was Jon Gruden. The one thing I really appreciated was when he stepped in to defend Tony Romo. He's definitely a welcome edition to the MNF crew, and not just because he doesn't hate the Cowboys.

Please don't bring facts or logic into the world of, "Hating on Garrett."

Last year I was hoping that Garrett would tone down the deep pass attempts, this year I'm just hoping we throw the ball less all together, or at least till we can't successfully run the ball at will anymore. Or until Romo can get his turnovers down. Yeah there have been a few threads on this subject but not nearly enough, welcome to the party...:beer2:

It may just be me, but I don't care if they put us in last place in power rankings. I would actually prefer it, so the players play with a chip on their shoulders.

Power rankings never won a playoff game or a Super Bowl, so I really don't pay any attention to them.
