Thoughts on the draft

My thoughts on the draft are mixed for different reasons. While i love the Smith and Carter picks i dont understand the Murray pick. Garrett has a hard time getting Felix and Choice involved in the game plan consistently because he loves the passing game. I dont hate the pick i just don't understand why.

Tyron Smith IMO was always the target, no matter what certain posters or Dallas media tried to force feed us. If you couldnt tell then something is wrong with you. I don't think I've ever seen the Cowboys spend as much time on one player alone as they did on Smith. Anything that involved Smith the Cowboys were there.

I LOVE this pick, for one it gives the Cowboys a set of tackles for the next decade. Teaming Smith up with Woicik is a godsend. Unlike 95% of Cowboy fans i think he'll be fine at RT. Free is no slouch and he played better then Flozell had in years. Smith with his footwork and long arms will be destroying RDEs and their slower motors before we know it. I dont think he will ever have Erik Williams strength, but he'll rival his technique. I thought the day would never come that Jerry would draft a OL in round 1. Great day for me.

Bruce Carter was an elite talent in college before his injury. Yes it might take time heel but he'll heel. Again Woicik is the master and he will do his job. Carter IMO is in Dallas because too much is uncertain about Lee. Too soft or too Injury prone whatever you want to call it, but theres something lacking IMO. Eventually he'll take over for James and be one of the leaders. Actually if you look at him play, for those who live on the west coast and suffered thru plenty of Raider games you'll see alot of similarities to Kirk Morrison. A guy Ryan loves. Nothing flashy jst gets the job done and is in on virtually every play.

Im excited to see how he'll be used and how early he'll be worked into the gameplan.

I'll admit beyond these two i dont know much about any of the guys they picked after these two. So i wont comment on them and try to seem like i know what im talking about. All ill say s i dont understand the Murray pick. I know Dallas needs a Big RB for tough yards But why there and then?

Onthe first two picks alone i love this draft tho. Go Cowboys!

You know how I love me some OLmen... I actually liked most of their picks...

Kind of wish they would have drafted abit better blocking FB, but that's ok...

Feel you on that. Ive been waiting for years for them to make a move on a solid OL in round 1. LOL too bad the last one i wanted was Winston Justice

Murray was picked because Barber will be cut and neither Felix nor Choice can be trusted to block blitzing LBers on 3rd downs. Not only can he block well but he can catch and has some speed. Thats makes a pretty good 3rd down back and adds another element to the offense as well as helping to protect Romo. Do you get it now?

Murray will not be a 3rd down back in Dallas. ;) But I feel what you are saying.

He certainly can be more but my main point is that as it stood, there wasn't a RB on the roster that can do what is needed from that position on 3rd downs. After the draft, there is one on the roster. Now its up to him to go take the starting job as well.

We play a 3-4 defense, so the need for LB's will always be there. There's also two ILB spots to fill and currently both starters are at the end of their careers (Brooking and James)

They know this, so they prepared accordingly and drafted a prospect they felt could help them not so much this yr, but for upcoming years. I doubt it had anything to do with what they think of Lee.
