1. Hats off to the replacements: I was quietly impressed by Steele, McGovern, Wilson, Osa, Kearse, and Armstrong. These guys have stepping up into larger roles due to injuries but were holding their own. To me that's encouraging, Martin has returned, and once Collins, Gallup, D.Wilson, Lawrence, Gregory, and Gallimore also return we might have some real depth in rotation.

2. Splash plays in the secondary: It's a huge upgrade. The secondary has been pretty horrible in terms of giving up yards, but saving grace is that the secondary have come away with 5 turnovers so far this season and Kearse was robbed of a 6th. We lead the league in turnover differential (+4) which is huge.

3. Our weakest starters are Biadasz and Brown: I don't think they've been horrible (Brown much better week 2) but to they are the clear weak links and getting beat more than we'd like. It's two areas I'd like us to investigate alternatives. Whether that's giving reps to backup (McGovern, Joseph, or Wright), or bringing someone via trade/FA I don't know. Upgrades might not be available, they haven't been terrible.

4. Shultz over Jarwin: Shultz has made 6/6 receptions but also been a much better blocker than Jarwin. I wasn't sure who the no.1 should be coming into the season and it's still not 100% clear but so far Shultz has looked better than Jarwin.

5. Less blown plays: The defense isn't blowing nearly as many plays and with a more aggressive front seven, when we do it's not always being capitalized on. That's a huge improvement.

6. Low football IQ: I feel like there's been some bad mistakes by the coaching staff. Nothing egregious in isolation, but the sum of mistakes is just far too high. We've seen delay of game penalties, substitution mistakes, bad 4th down decisions, clock management mistakes, and far too aggressive calls on special teams in general. The players are delivering on the field, the game plan has been great, but game day organisation and decisions have been woefully inadequate.

we're better on defense...and these rookies are play makers.

offense is in mid season form that can air it out or slug in the mud.

ot terrence steele is a real find.

we're a good young team that hopefully gets better every week.

to go where we want to go...we MUST improve each week in red-zone scoring and on defense...with a lead...shut'm down.
just like we did last week.

dan quinn will prove to be a great addition to this staff.

its fun having a young defense find its way and make plays on the ball.

really excited about whats ahead.

can't wait til we get DLaw....Gallup...Gallimore..
Collins....Joseph back.
and we should be getting them back as we move into the play-off push...if not before.

Biadasz was bulldozing this week. The kid has impressed the first two weeks.
Brown sucks as does jaylon.

So far Biadasz has given up 2 penalties, a sack, and 9 pressures. If over the course of a year he gives up 17 penalties, 8 sacks, and 76 pressures then that's a massive concern. Granted Vita Vea is unique and small sample sizes can be massively skewed but to date.....he hasn't been great. Not in either game. Last year Jedrick Wills lead the league with 11 penalties so Biadasz needs to clean things up moving forward.

McCarthy

That's the worry. I mean, you have to give him credit for the good as much as the bad because he's ultimately responsible for everything. But it does seem like a lot of the things he's probably in charge of have been a problem. I do wonder though if he's being propped up by a good OC and DC and that we might be a whole lot better with a different head coach.

3. I agree.
4. Schultz is better. Jarwin is an embarrassment to the word blocking.

The sad part is in-game he is solely responsible for
game management. He doesn’t call plays and has two very effective coordinators. To be average at his role would be one thing, but it seems he’s poor at it way too often.

The Harbaugh in Baltimore would be the perfect. At least we would know our special teams would be buttoned up.

The great thing is that most of the players discussed are very young in their rookie, 2nd or 3rd seasons and should improve each week throughout the season.

I thought Biadasz played better in his 2nd game even though he has a ways to go. Still, my first statement applies.

Our weakest starters are Biadasz

Biadasz ranks 24th [PFF] his rookie season. We lost the best center NFL [Fredbeard] and Biadasz is not that maybe will never be but he's not chop liver. Normal center play takes a couple of years. He's going to be solid.
