I dont really understand fans sometimes. We took the best player available according to our draft board. Barber is likely to be gone this year and choice is a free agent next year. Im sure Jerry and Garrett have no intentions of paying choice the free agent price tag he is sure to command next off season. I am also positive they do not want to have a rookie back be the primary backup to felix next year.

So Jerry takes the BPA, to fill a void before it happens (2012), and he is crucified.

I trust what Garrett is doing and would much rather take the next best player on my board that doesnt fill an obvious need rather than a player we aren't excited about because he can play safety or guard.

I like the pick. Barber clearly gone, and if I'm Choice I am concerned. Murray will return kicks and is a great 3rd down back.......Helluva pass catcher as well as the best blocking back on the team now. Great pick!!!

Those who say we didn't need a RB...I beg to differ.

First, running backs are a dime a dozen. They have the least impact on winning and they're all over the place.

Second, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

Third, good interior linemen were on the board.

It's stupid no matter how you slice it. Even if he turns out to be a great RB, it was still a stupid decision AT THE TIME the decision was made.

Its stupid that choice is a free agent next season and you're covering your basis before hand?

FWIW ill trust what Garrett and co do on draft day till proven wrong.

All of them can end up being busts

So should we just ignore our scouts?

We passed on Ellis to get Murray. That's ridiculous, but that's why we finish the way we usually finish. We are dying for a big nasty plug at NT and we pass one up right in front of our eyes. The Jets need one and they draft TWO so far. That's why they're in the playoffs and we aren't.

I'm, Stasheroo, and I approve this message.

So you liked watching the embarrassment that was Leonard Davis out there?

Good news then.

Looks like you'll be in for more of the same in 2011.

I just heard someone on the ticket - think it was JJT - saying that the Cowboys had Murray graded 2nd round, and got him a full round later than they had him graded. I was hoping for Rackley, but it sounds like the took the highest graded player on their board. If they had Rackley and Murray graded about the same, and Rackley was at the position of glaring need, then yeah, I'd be right there with you calling it a stupid pick. But if they had Murray graded significantly higher than Rackley, or than any of the remaining O-linemen...well, at that point, either you trust your scouts and your board, or you don't.

So oft-injured Murray is guaranteed success then?

Just wondering what your 'rules' are for playing.

I don't give a crap if they had him rated as a 1st rounder.

I realize it's not popular right now but I absolutely love it. I watched the guy play in college, and when healthy, he is a big time threat.

His injuries are concerning, and he will have to learn to get lower if he wants to stay healthy (which he is at the moment btw). This pick says that we are probably done with Barber and possibly Choice as well, and I think we significantly upgraded that position.

Maybe, just maybe, our scouts and front office can't grade players worth a crap. Just a thought. I mean, they've done such a good job drafting OL in the past.

I see what you're saying, but when I'm faced with watching Leonard Davis' pathetic efforts, "need" goes up a lot higher on my list.

Even if we drafted a guard in the 3rd round, do you really think he would be starting for us? honestly?

:laugh2:

Every year we reach big time for someone and then Jerry comes out and says "We had him with a first round grade on our board!!". Without fail.

The scouts don't make the picks.

Trust me, they don't always like the picks. THey turn in their reports, help put together the board, and then Jerry (with coaches' input) makes the pick.

Obviously, Jerry wanted Murrary and I think Garrett and Stephen did, too. That doesn't mean the scouts thought he was good value there at 71 or whatever, with the other prospects available.

Did we need to spend a third rounder to be 'done with Barber'?

Isn't that the worst-kept secret in the league?

Same 'rules' then.

Will Murray be 'starting for us'?

Second question, will he be 'starting for us' anytime soon?
