This game was very similar to the Cowboy loss earlier in the season, outside of the 49ers starting slow:

-What makes the Eagles offense very good is their ability to both run and pass the football at a high rate, with the league's best offense line. What the 49ers did, was take away their running game and turned their offense one dimensional. Swift/Hurts never hurt the 49ers on the ground all game long.

-When the 49ers force teams to pass, they are very difficult to beat. They can get pressure with just their front 4, play extra men in coverage and force a QB to make tight throws. Their linebackers are the best in the business and they do an excellent job taking the middle away. You have to beat them on the outside. We saw Hurts have a ton of time in the pocket for most of the game, but nobody was every open and the 49ers dared him to make tight window throws.

-The 49ers are the most physical team in the game. Not just their defense, but they have the best run after the catch receivers in the league. If teams fail to match their physicality, the 49ers will bully you all game long.

-Purdy makes great decisions, but he is more of a timing based QB. He usually throws to a spot. Teams tend to play more zone against them cause of their run after catch ability, Deebo absolutely destroyed the Eagles defense out in space.

-As we have seen in their 3 game losing streak, this team can be beat, but you better run the football enough, be able to hold up in press man coverage and limit the receivers to little yards after the catch. All that, you still have to contain their run game with has a ton of misdirection in it.

-Saw a post about the Eagles being overrated, that isn't the case at all, the 49ers are that good and since the 3 game losing streak the national media just wrote them off way too early.

It would take an unbelievable performance by the Head Coach and Quarterback in order to beat the 49ers if they are fully healthy.

We would need one of those extremely rare "we were better than them on THAT particular day" type of wins.

Sadly, I think the 49'ers are playing even better than when we played them earlier in the season!! Of course, we are too, but I think it will take a miracle to beat them at this time!!

Same thing happened to us. Definitely demoralizing to watch it happen.

Eagles are who we think they are. Good team but probably a tick below what they were last year. Dangerous offense but can be stopped/panicked and defense that is tough in the front but week in the back.

Unfortunately, SF is also who we think they are. Nobody is unbeatable but if I had money to bet I'd put it on SF to win the superbowl.

Best offensive line? That is very questionable. They definitely are not the OL they were last year, not even close.

Defense is about discipline, technique and physicality. We need to bring those. This should not be a stats game for either Parsons or Bland, this should be team defense

Keep them in 2nd and 7-10 not 3-4. Have to be effective in stopping their 1st down

Need to play real DEs to contain the run, Parsons at MLB

DT, safeties and LBs will need to take away the middle and make Hurts throw outside

We will also need to manufacture a run game and score 7 in the red zone not 3 to keep up the pressure

several key things you pointed out.

The niners are a very physical team and it starts with both of their lines. They have made huge investments in the DL and OL and focus has been on physiciallity of both. their DL is or almost violent with the way they attack.

their defensive success is predicated on pass defense and rushing with front 4, which they do a really good job and then dropping 7 into coverage as you said take away passing lanes, specially with their LBs.

Their offensive success is also predicated on their running game. and the ability of the backs catching and RACs. Sameul is physical and is at times like a RB from the backfield. McCaffrey fits their offense to a T. they run a zone blocking scheme and he can wiggle his way through, as if they had Henry, they would not necessarily see as much success.

the way to beat them is to run the ball, force them to respect the run and not be predictable on 2nd, 3rd downs. its not necessarily averaging 4 yards a carry, but averaging 3.5 to four, allows you to run even on second downs and force them to dedicate more of their LBs to stopping the run. which in turn opens the passing game. in our earlier game this year, the drive we scored a TD, was just that. we had some success running the ball, which in turn opened the passing game. the passing game has to challenge them everywhere in the field, their defense has to be forced to defend the whole field forcing their Safties and LBs having to make decisions.

ofcourse all of this is predicated on stopping their pass rush. dedicating additional players to provide pass protection is more important than having more WRs enroute.

Right now SF is best team in the league, despite their 3 game losing streak. in those three losses, McCaffrey was held in check with 43, 45 and 50 yards. and all those teams had some to good success running against them. that put their defense having to focus on stopping the run and then left passing lanes open. Minn. provided excellent pass protection and they attacked them all over the field.

..it takes good coaching to beat good teams.

Lets hope DQ doesn't start wearing his funeral regalia anytime soon.

Yeah, SF is good. So are we. Dont let confirmation bias eat you up.

Eagles still good team. They got out-coached yesterday. Philly was big headed, probably thought they were going to do THEIR THING.

Failed! ... back to drawing board.

If your like me, I've seen enough Dallas football to believe this team can bring it home.

But its going to take, good coaching, play calling, bone-head mistake free football.

Eagles defense is:
22nd in yards per play
25th in takeaways
23rd in yards
24th in points

The Eagles are not good on defense. Last year they were very good on defense. I don't think that people really have accepted this yet.

............

I didn't see the coverage but Hurts had forever to throw yesterday and still was struggling to find people. He often had to run around and create a broken play for someone to get open. SF wasn't getting quick pressure with their front 4 from what I saw. Any pressure was coverage related.

Best o'line that gets away with holding about 30 plays a game.

Kind of a strange game eagles looked invincible in the first quarter offensive line giving hurts forever to throw the ball defensive line making Purdy go three and out.

Then all of a sudden it was like the defense was gassed they were done and no matter how much time hurts had his receivers were covered why he didn't run the ball is beyond me because they would have had to dedicate personnel to stop him if he just ran the ball.

Interestingly enough if the eagles had won that game they'd have had a pretty good lock on the number one seed having lost that game if we beat them next week the number one seed is really up for grabs I'm sure the league likes to see that as it makes all the games important right up to the end.
My tin foil hat is not on but it is an arm's length away.

If the team can't run and can't pass protect, it won't matter what the head coach gins up and how beast-mode the QB goes, it's not going to work. And if the defense can't slow down CMC and pressure the QB, they'll get eaten alive.

The 49ers are a better team, I think it's pretty hard to argue with that. Not only that, they're a completely healthy team. To beat them will require a great all-around performance and some breaks (either of the lucky type or the bone type). It can happen, but I wouldn't put the odds at better than 30% or so in their house.

Interestingly , i dunno if I'd say they out-physical you physically... they don't use a power oriented OL unit
as it's based off that patented Shanahan zone trap stretch scheme.

and as I always point out to several threads repeatedly, they don't employ big hulky power backs but
more so speedy splashing backs - from Mosher, Ejiah, to McCaffrey it's been based off burst- quickness
than big pounding backs like many on this forum seem to be constantly insisting on .

The Eagles themselves do not employ big hulking backs either - but they prefer the same type speed oriented
slashing backs in that Shanahan system .. the ex-Sanders, now Swifts, Gainwell, Scott etc.

But if we employ a similar speedy, slashing type RB ala Pollard - then they'll say he needs to be benched and
reserved for a change of pace backup RB and should be starting Rico instead ... go figure.

Making matters worse if we still seem to be trying to use Pollard as a bell cow pounding back - angry runs
and that's not the type of RB he is.

Eagles defense is bad, Eagles offense is mediocre, 49ers kill teams when they get a lead.

These things are known, and were really just all exaggerated last night.
