Defense

-Stopping the run was the key, it allowed the Cowboys front to attack the banged up Brown's OL.
-Parsons, DLaw, Overshown, Kendricks all played great. Overshown really showed that elite burst, which you thought it was Parsons.
-Thought Carson played an excellent game against one of the best route runners in the entire league. Diggs looked like his former self.
-Lewis/Wilson did an excellent job tackling in space.
-Really liked what I saw with Zimmer's scheme, Watson appeared to be confused for most of the game.

Offense

-Thought the OL struggled early on, but settled in.
-Staff did a good job of scheming ways to not allow Garrett to wreck the game.
-Far more aggressive in the 1st half, where they played very conservative in the 2nd half with a big lead.
-Run game had it's struggles for the majority of the day, but also got to keep in mind Browns are excellent in stopping the run.
-The end arounds with Lamb/Turpin really gave the Browns the most trouble.
-Lamb looked like his normal self, but you can see some rust with him and Dak being on the same page.
-Dak made several good throws early on, but missed a few targets in the 2nd half.

Special Teams

-Audrey is such a weapon, would of tied the NFL record if not for the delay of game. His kick was on grass, which makes it even more impressive.
-Glad to see Turpin finally return a punt for a TD.
-Give Bones Fassell all the props for finding these 2 special teams standouts.

Final Thoughts

-Very good win on the road against a quality opponent. Our rookies held up and will get better with more experience, but there will still be some growing pains. Our run defense looked terrific, now can they improve rushing the football? Let's hope Ferguson doesn't miss too much time, as they are going to need him against the better offensive teams on their schedule.

Winning the first game of the season against a team on the road with one of the top defenses is always a bonus - you take that and move on to Game 2. I am not ready to draw any absolute conclusions from this one game, because for most players the first month of the season is like preseason. It will take at least 5-6 games before we have some idea as to what this team can be. What I liked yesterday was that all phases showed up - defense, offense, and special teams. I had two primary concerns going into this game. One, how would the defense respond to Zimmer's scheme, especially against the run; and two, how would the two rookie OL hold up against that formidable Brown's defensive line. Based on yesterday, both played above expectations, although we also have to consider that they were without their two starting tackles and Watson's anemic passing played a role in that. Two concerns going forward, both of which are interrelated. First the injury to Ferguson - hope that if he misses any time it's only a handful of weeks. Second concern, is the lack of a playmaker beyond CD Lamb. Cooks did play well and had much a better start to this season with Dak than last year, but I am still concerned about the lack of playmakers. I expect this next game against the Saints to be a more competitive matchup - they have a much better offense than the Browns and their defense is no slouch. Glad we are playing them in our stadium. Go Cowboys!

I have another wr near the top of my next offseason wishlist. My biggest concern is our lack of running game

Great points was surprised at the poise that Guyton and Beebe played with. Only one penalty between the two. I thought holes were there to run but the running backs are average. I thinks Cooks and Deuce need to get some carries.

I am going to apologize to Overshown and Hendricks, they are really good together. That was the best linebacker play I have seen from a Cowboys twosome since Jaylon and LVE vs the Saints.

Side note. Diggs looks really good. Almost frightening to see what teams are going to do throwing against him and Bland. I don’t think there has ever been a more dangerous duo to intercept the football like them two in recent history.

Overshown is a beast, I love the way he plays. Great win, need to tighten up some things on the offensive side of the ball, but offense always takes time to gel at the beginning of the season.

Going to be a good test next week against the Saints.

For what it's worth...

The Browns rushing offense and defense, by ypc, were worse than Dallas last year. That's a battle they should have won. There's just way too much mythology around here about what this Browns team is/was last year.

Very little reason to feel better about this team than two days ago. Dallas is very good, but this game wasn't definitive of anything.

good points...

more simply, we won.. and yes we won on the road on grass as an underdog with many picking against us , with no preseason for the starters(remember that narrative), lamb not at camp, 4 rookies played solidly, great thing OFF A WIN, they can improve a lot each week as the competition gets tougher.

only negative i can remember is the one injury at ferguson.what his status?. hope this Stephens hype is real...might find out sooner than later...

right everyone was worried it was gonna be a Michael Gallup or Terrence steele acl slow recovery but he and Diggs looked normal to me.. hope it keeps going with no setbacks but so far that looks like another busted narrative that we cant count onthe guys coming off ACLS..we try to tell fans that all reverys are different for each player.

looks like Diggs and Overshown are the exceptions. and that posive for the team an dfans that we can depend on them.

defense was fantastic. Kneeland and Overshown looked great as newcomers. Time will tell if our interior will hold up but one game they were not the hole that I expected. Long season.

Tough to tell if the offense was on cruise control because the Browns could not do anything on offense. The running back concern is real. I just don't think Dowdle is it. If you upgraded that spot, I think the rest of the rotation is fine. With Zeke, we should be better at short yardage, but I don't see anyone besides Deuce who are going to get big runs.

The receiver situation is also a little worrisome...especially if Ferguson misses games. Dak seems really focused on CD. While that is not a bad thing, Dallas will need others to make defenses pay as they put a lot of attention to stopping CD. Who will be that player to step up?

Improved linebacker play could play real dividends in stopping the run this yr. I think Overshown might be that perfect spy against those mobile QB's.

We need a legitimate back with speed/quickness. Zeke is just fine as a #2 back. Him getting about 10 touches a game should be his ceiling. Really want to see if Cook can become that runner we lack.

I thought we looked good in the first half, both sides of the ball. Defense was great second half, offense didn't show up.

Overshown has to stay healthy, he is a legitimate star in the making.

Don’t want to get ahead of myself. Overshown and Parsons vs Lamar will be box office in two weeks.

Cooks has to get out there. He is our fattest/shiftiest back. I don’t think much of Dowdle and Deuce is a gimmick.

LB play was night and day compared to last season. From Kendrick’s knifing through early for the TFL, to Overshown being shot out of a cannon on the QB in flat. Looked like we had three Sean Lee’s out there.

I don't think people realize how terrible the LB play has been for the last 7-8 years. I really liked Overshown's game, but Kendricks' ability to be consistently in position around the LOS is going to make a massive difference. They're going to be a nice compliment to each other.

we don't need another speed back its simple yes Zeke 10 carries but Rico needs a lot more touches early and zeke later in games , you know like the opposite of yesterday i'd like to see Rico MORE in first half more Zeke 2nd half and use DV more in the 4th qtr after those Ds get bit tired.. that was my biggest complaint last y.... it's looking like it again this year MM not rotating backs correctly., 10-40 4 YPC and TD is good for Zeke, bet he can better used the opposite of yesterday.
